hey guys I have 7 colorado points each for deer, elk, antelope. I am a resident of colorado and I need some pointers on a good place on public land.I want to concentrate on deer for now. I also have a 12year old son who will be getting a tag for the 1st time this coming year also, any suggestions there also. let me know what ya guys think, any input will be greatly appreciated. thanks

FOR ELK I WOULD LOOK AT UNIT 76, ITS AN LE UNIT...CANT HELP YOU ON LOPE. FOR DEER I WOULD LOOK AT UNIT 21,61,54,55,& 10.---YD.

yea I was looking at unit 10 also what do you know about that unit as far as where to start?

NEED A LOT MORE POINTS FOR UNIT 10 FOR DEER!
See if their youth hunts because if you apply as party you loose those points or how ever they do points as a party!
rm

yea I was going to do a seperate youth hunt for him . was wondering what there is out there in the way of those? A friend of mine suggested getting a left over cow tag for some areas and learning them that way, Im looking for a average 28" to 30" buck in an area with not alot of people, but then again isnt everyone? If anyone is interested in big california blacktail hunting I can swap some very good areas?

Right on,Chester.A guy would be LUCKY to lay his eyes on more than a handful of those all year long(even on western Wyoming winter range!!)!There is no such thing as an "average 28-30"er!!

what I ment was I dont really care what the buck scores as long as the spread is there. but thanks for all of your so helpful remarks!

So you mean to tell me that if you saw 2 bucks standing side by side, one a 30 inch willow horned 4 point, and a 24 inch wide massive tall buck with a 190 main frame and several extra points that you would shoot the 30 inch buck?????????

35, go to huntodds.com. Punch in Colorado and each of the units mentioned above. See what your 7 points will get you. I spend hours on there each year just on Colorado. Good luck.

You'll need at least 8 points to draw unit's 21 or 10 during the 3rd season hunt. The deer there are known for tall, heavy racks, but they don't get overly wide. I hunted unit 21 last year and shot a nice heavy typical buck that grossed 184, but he's only 24"s wide. I can help you with unit 21, if you decide to hunt it some day.

thanks to the guys who are trying to communicate and help. I definately will look into it and greatly appreciate all the hel-p I can get thanks

dndracing,
What areas are you close to? Most of Colorado is pretty good for deer. You have alot of points don't just burn them. How many points does your son have? JC

thanke for the reply jc, I live in castle rock, and my son turns 12 this year so he has no points . just looking for a good jr hunt where he could get hooked on shooting one?

archery, muzzle, or rifle for those 7 points. those points go a LONG way for archery...
