No bucks worth wastin a tank of diesel. Just 160-170 pisscutters is all!!! You saw one of the bucks I passed...

I have the same tag but i am not a youth i am a disabled hunter that could use all the help thats out there...

Ok I didn't realize the Late hunt is only around the Vernal area. I was thinking it was the same as the Youth Early hunt. So my ground is not in the late boundry. Sorry I would have loved to see some bulls killed by Youth or disabled hunter.

Hey wet_boob!

Can't you Bend the Rules a little?

Baron,

Sorry man. I'm no good to you. I try to stay away from the basin. Too many feral house cats runnin' around scratchin' and sqauttin' on everything. Good luck to you and your son. Be sure to post up your results.

spent a few days out there hunting north of vernal and saw lots of deer and most were bucks did'nt see any elk or tracks there of...

Does any one know where to hunt out there..

any where between uinta river and Colorado..?

or is this unit like the rest of the states elk herds..nothing more than a rumor...

Baron, if the unit has not changed it is not friendly to younger youth or those with handicaps. This is why i say that. I put my twin boys in at the age of 12 and they drew. It was a circus to say the least and we had some landowners let us hunt on some of their property. The only elk are in and around Thunder Ranch and in between dinosaur park and the colorado border. So with the rules of driving in the park and having your gun unloaded and the action tore apart and private all around you have a challenge. We would spot good elk and by the time we got over the fence and assembled the guns and loaded them the elk were long gone. Having said that in the end we were able to hook up with a landowner later and shoot some rag bulls. It was 3 years ago so I am not sure the numbers I have are still current, but the landowner tech back then for the fish and game was Morgan Caldwell 435-790-4587
or the vernal dwr office number is 435-781-9453. They were very helpful to us and there is probably still some landowners that need a few elk taken. Good Luck. Layne

thank you thank you... that alone saved me $200 in fuel and no wasted weekends... i will get on the phone this week and see what i can figure out.... i have very limited knowledge about the area..

Thank you... will post all results..

spent some time by ouray looking in river bottoms found a little sign .... coyotes ...every where...then for 3 or 4 miles threw the fields and over the fences crossing roads you could see a path threw the snow...about 30 feet wide looked like someone took a tiller thew there... wasnt a 6 inch square in there without an elk track.... had to be an insane amount of animals they all stayed in one path never filtered out and fed.. all the same direction.. didnt seem to be a panic run no dirt was kicked up threw the snow .. but that area is a brutally cold area..they all came from the oil fields and went straight to the res... looked like they knew what they was doing and have done it before...that was a very impressive experience .. i couldnt get pics because of the reflection off the snow...
