LAST EDITED ON Aug-13-07 AT 01:30PM (MST)[p]I don't know about you all, but everytime I see a Deer Crossing Sign here in Utah, I can't help but get offended when I see a whitetail with it's tail in the air jumping on the sign. Are people not supposed to slow down or keep an eye out for the muledeer?

I can't believe the MDF isn't all over this ;-), trying to save the MuleDeer in Utah. We can't even save them from the encroaching whitetail signs. The things we'll do to save a few dollars in the Govt.

I am sure we got a smoking deal from some provider back east, but can't they give us a couple like the good old days with a muledeer rack and no flag tail?

Let your voices be heard!!! Let's keep MuleDeer as our state deer here in Utah!!!

We have whitetail signs in Kali too. I don't think there is one whitetail in the whole state.

Don't have a "cow" Cowslayer.

Most states adopt the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for warning signs. Even Alaska's DEER WARNING sign uses a Whitetail, and we don't even have whitetails.

I'd wager that 95% of all motorists don't know the difference between a Whitetail/Blacktail/Mule Deer antler configuration. Utah could design a "custom" sign to depict a Mule Deer, but I doubt the UDOT would go for it.

If you were to have a special sign for every type of animal warning, you'd have some pretty strange stuff:

I'm still looking for one I have (from Sweden.) It's a warning sign for breeding moose. It shows a bull mounting a cow. I'll post it if I can find it.

Too Late! I've had a cow, that's just who i am! I'm tired of the Mule Deer getting the shaft! It's time the west stand up for their own!!!

I feel discriminated against as a MuleDeer enthusiast. Every once in a while I will see one of the old Mule Deer signs and I am instantly taken back to the good old days where our deer were recognized as Mule Deer and not whitetails. I have nothing against Whities, but let's be honest that deer looks goofie on the current sign and way out of place. I would love to see some more funny signs though.

I just about made a smiliar post the other day.

I was noticing some of the ones out in my neck of the woods, and I dont know WHAT kind of deer it is on that sign, but its not a white tail or a mule deer.

Same crap here in NM but the funny thing is that we have 3 different types of elk crossing signs all for the same kind of elk. Don't make no sense. The cool part is that most of the signs are hard to make out cause they're all shot up.

AMEN. I've thought for years, how sad it is that we're stuck with those eastern deer. Here in Idaho, we've been invaded to the point that there are now more whitetails, but the principle is still valid.

You, me and Don Quiote will keep fighting!

I'm just glad to know that all of the time I spent on the mountain trying to teach you the difference between a whitey and a muley has actually paid off!! Good job and keep up the good work. We might be able to go on whitetail only hunt after all!! :)

UThunting,

I think that mule deer on the sign is aweful big for a general region Utah herd buck. Do they make signs that are either 2 points or spikes!

There are some mule deer signs scattered around Nevada as well as many of the old school whitetail ones. The mule deer ones are pretty cool as they feature a very deep forked four point. Also gotta love the big bull elk signs around Ely and the desert bighorn signs down around Lake Mead. I should start a collection. Need to go find my flashlight and socket set!!
