Looking for a rifle elk hunt in 2014, possibly 2015, for 4 guys. Looking for recommendations. Or if you had any bad experiences please PM.

Thanks,
JR

Ron Lineberger was nailed for sheep poaching back in the 90's. As such, I'll never hunt with that azzhat and Butte Creek Outfitters. Your chances of shooting a big one are better the closer you are to the park. I've done 4 DIY hunts and a couple guided hunts up there. Ran into Bill Perry one time. He's a class guy. We started talking and he offered for us to stay in one of his layover camps and even said help yerself to the firewood. He has a camp on Hidden Ck including Nate Vances old camp near the park border. I knew a guide who worked for Vance and he said they always took some big bulls. If you book with Perry, I'd try for Vance's old camp. Some of those camps have changed hands in recent years; Fales' camp, Pass Ck Outfitters and a couple others. We got charged by a big silver humped boar grizz the last time I was in there. You haven't lived to tell a story until you get charged by a grizzly bear..

There are a bunch of outfitters that go into the Thorofare. Some go in from the Cody side and some from the Jackson side.

As mentioned Hidden Creek is Bill Perry, I think Gary Fales is now Wyoming Expeditions, then there is Isawooa, Open Creek, Bliss Creek and many others.

I hunted there about ten years ago with Butte Creek Outfitters. I hadn't heard about them being caught poaching but I wouldn't have recommended them anyway.

It's certainly a wilderness adventure. I was in there about September 10th and I thought this was too early. Was expecting a rut hunt and they weren't bugling yet. They were starting about the time I left.
