I am new to this site but it looks awesome!! I was thinking about putting in for Ensign but cant get much info from the operator and the contact # is just a recording does anyone have any info on the unit as far as caliber of bulls to expect. Also I was looking at diamond mountain any info would be great thank you in advance.

I used to guide up there for several years.......there are MUCH better places to burn your elk points.

I have never hunted Diamond Mtn. But, I have been told by many, their is alot of private property their. You might want to have a good idea where to hunt before applying. I have heard that the Elk quality is on the up swing in this Unit. The age class for Elk was raised there a few years ago. So, you might start seeing this in the size of Bulls taken.

I have a friend who has access to private land on Diamond Mt. He tells me that as soon as the elk are pressured they move quickly to their land and pretty much remain there for most of the season.
We hunted deer out there and there were hardly any good bucks on public land.

A friend had an En tag last year, he ended up with a bull that went about 310 or so. Said that was about the biggest they saw. The guys who draw the tag have to wait until the paying customers are done. So his hunt was later in Oct. Said he had fun though, I guess it all depends on your goals and what type of bull you'd be happy with.

thank you guys for all the info 310 doesn't sound that bad but is that about the max a guy could expect after all the paying clients get through and do you think there would be a better chance at a bigger bull on diamond. Slamdunk where you have guided there is 310 a realistic number if you hunt hard. I know there recording says 280 plus but I just have no idea or know of nobody that has hunted it before.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-14-13 AT 08:20AM (MST)[p]Had the SSDM tag a few years ago, private property is an issue. You will definately need to go up and scout just to learn all the property boundary's. As far as a 310 bull, it is possible. Mine was 297" gross (he has a 3rd antler that is 10", that puts him at 307"gross). I seen a couple bigger ones, but you will have to do your homework. When I was researching it, most of the guys were shooting bulls in the mid-high 200's.
Also during all my scouting trips (6 or 7 in total trips, 2-4 days each time) I seen 3 bulls between 300 & 320, the rest were sub 300.

My dad is applying for it now as a NR and his expectations are a decent 6 in the high 200's if he draws it. He was there with me when I had my tag too.
Yes it is a LE tag, so there is the chance of a great bull but don't be expecting that or you will likely be dissappointed.

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

LAST EDITED ON Feb-16-13 AT 07:11PM (MST)[p] all south slope bulls, there is private land to contend with but with a little work you can shoot a good bull

treedagain those are some great looking bulls are they off of the public land or the private?

BTW, a good map is needed to navigate the unit, uintah county has the best

How to start an argument online:
1. Express an opinion
2. Wait

Treedagain thank you for the info I would be tickled with any of those bulls in your pics. Does anyone have any more info on ensign.

Good looking bulls Jim, congrats. I have the garmin gps with property boundaries it would help a lot up there.
