Reading western hunter here, I see another example of something that has been puzzling me. For many years in magazines, I see pack out shots where people are packing quarters with the hoof attached and sticking out the pack. Why would anyone do this? I prefer to bone everything out immediately to cool it off, but I really don't understand why you would keep this attached instead of whacking it at the knuckle, even if you are taking bone in quarters out.

Easier to keep quarter attached to pack frames. There is more to tie on.
