First WA archery buck

I started hunting a few years ago, but It seems like I've had bad luck with mule deer. Between blown stalks, getting busted and one deer getting hit by a train. (im not getting into the train wreck deer) After yesterday I feel like I redeemed myself. I had been watching a goup of bucks for the past few weeks. The group had 2 145-150 class 4 pts (22") and one monster heavy mass 3 pt that was 28" wide.

Last week I had one of the 4 pts broadside with its head behind a tree within range and i could have easily shot it, but i had the 28 incher at 7 yds farther. I had tunnel vision on the big one. Needless to say it didnt work out and I couldnt get a shot at the big one and I was regretting on passing the smaller of the two. It was fun being there but disapointing knowing i could have tagged a respectable buck.

Throughout the week i thought about the fact that i havent killed a buck with my bow and that i was being too picky.

I went out yesterday to the same spot and heard the larger bucks heading to their bedding areas well before first light. I waited at the same trail for the next hour and finally i had this buck at 40 yds and closing. I moved my bow slightly in front of my face getting ready to draw and he immediately locked on to me but thankfully kept feeding. He went down below me and I shot him for 30 yards. I heard a THWACK. I didnt see any blood and thought i had missed and hit a tree or stump. I knocked another arrow and was about to shoot at 40 yds. I settled the pin the buck fell over after walking 10 yds.

I dont care about the score and dont regret shooting him even after ive seen many other bucks that were much bigger. I had a blast!

Hope you guys enjoyed the story and hope to post another one soon after my wilderness elk hunt. Central WA buck 24" wide.
