Here is a video of my brother's cow elk he took up Nine Mile in January. We tried for a quickie elk near a road and then ended up earning this cow 3 times over for our effort in -17 degree temperatures. She is the biggest cow elk I have ever seen! Oh well, she tastes real good now!

I'd have bet money he hit that first cow he shot at the way she humped up and then moved down to the right.

Funny how "easy" hunts turn in to not so easy.

I don't agree with the others. If you look really close you can see the shot was high over the back and you can see the impact in the snow.

Don't matter - she is in the freezer!

HOOK 'EM!

Nice footage! That looked like a great time. What area did you find the herd in? We hit Cottonwood and Jack Canyons and didnt find shiz.

We couldn't believe he had missed that first shot. I thought for sure he hit her from her reaction and my reaction on video. We got up there and no sign of anything.

This elk was actually taken in Nine Mile canyon. I live in Price and had been up looking for cows about 7 times before this hunt started. I found this herd because I knew where to look from previous years experience. I watched the herd for a couple days on private land and they finally crossed on to some public before we decided to go after them. We are young and foolish so we hiked our tails off to get her which 90% of the Nine Mile cow elk hunters won't do. They aren't always by the roads. We usually hunt Harmon and the main canyon. I've only spent about 30 minutes up in Cottonwood but I think I will spend more time up there as I have heard the elk numbers are usually better there than Harmon.
