i got charged for an archery elk tag. anybody have any spots to hang a tree stand in the book cliffs. i never been there and need all the help i can get, i have no time to scout.

hopefully you are joking but if not you might just want to turn the tag back in ;-) No time to scout on a tag that you probably wont be able to draw for another 10-15 years, you might be better off waiting for another year when you have time to learn the area.
I haven't been in the area either but did have a buddy who is the best elk hunter I know and he had the book cliffs archery tag last year. He had a difficult time last year, he ended up taking a decent bull on the 2nd to last day but I know it was a very difficult hunt. This coming from a guy who regularly takes 300" bulls on OTC public land tags.

nope not my buddy. i only have the weekends to hunt also. i was told a 350 bull was average out there is that true. i will not shoot a smaller bull.

You have no time to scout, and only have weekends to hunt, and want a 350 plus bull! with a bow! ( May the force be with you!!!!!)

It only took me about 10 years to find the REALY GOOD
spots to hang stands for elk in the Books.....No kidding!

Hell, there's only a few million square acres out there!

OK, you are only holding out for a 350 bull. I thought you were going to go for a big bull. If a 350 bull is all you're looking for, weekends should be plenty of time to get one in an area you have never stepped foot in and don't plan on scouting :)

JUDAS tradarcher!

I thought You'd at least want Coordinates to some 380"+ Bulls!:D

The Dew I had for Breakfast wasn't Bad so I had one more for Dessert!:D

Don't worry Tradar.

There are plenty of 350"+ bulls out there. You should be able to hang your stand about anywhere and kill one the first weekend. Why screw up the whole season when you could fill your tag quickly and get back home to the little woman.

I wouldn't worry about scouting or planning either. Just follow another hunter to their spot and you're all set! Why waste all that time scouting? Right?

It's really easy to kill a 350"+ bull with your bow almost anywhere in the State.

Good luck (but you don't need it)
Zeke

I wouldn't even take your treestand or your bow. There are so many huge bulls out there that are dying of old age. Just find a fresh one near the road and tag it. Drive around to all the camps until someone lets you borrow a knife too.

Thanks for all the input guys. Now all i need is a bow. Anybody have any suggestions on a good bow and a couple dozen arrows for around 150 dollars.

The pawn shops that border the books will have all the archery gear you will need. At a great price too. The many Archery Elk hunters that left tag unfilled all were so upset they pawned all their gear on the way home. If you do your home work you could find the deal you r seeking.

use to be big 350 class bulls behind every bush, but they thinned them out to make room for the 200 class bucks and the 90" Pronghorns. So those 350 class bulls are now behind every third bush.
Hogg is right on about the pawn shops, being full of un-used archery gear. LOL

I was just trying to get a rise out of people with this post. Seems like there are a few people that act like that every year on here. I really did draw the tag, but actually know the book cliffs quite well. Good luck to all of you in the draws and hunting seasons.

Tradarcher,
I figured you were doing a little "chain pullin" so we played along.
Congrats on the tag! I hope you do well and have the kind of great experience that LE elk hunting can be!
Zeke

I've got some old carbon express arrows I can sell you but can't help you out on the bow.

After thinking about it you will probably only need one arrow so I can just give you one.

Haha congrats Cole, hell buddy just have someone drive you around while standing in the back you are bound to run into at least a 350 bull if you dont take a diesel truck and use yor hoochy mama just right I bet you can get a 400"er to show up. LOL

Me and Ty drew Diamond Archery tags, it should be a good year.

Good Luck buddy.
