Has anyone hunted this in the last few years?
Just looking for info on the elk not spots as i know the unit well,I just have not been on the unit since 1990.

I have seen some good bulls on that unit, I have gone with co workers to work on the television towers on the peaks... They are pretty good at letting you know where the elk ae. I have a friend that works all o ver the property I can give him a call for you later on in the year if you want...

That would be good thanks, you can send me a pm and we can talk.
My wife drew the tag so it should be a good hunt.
The bad part is it's a cwmu so scouting is not an option!
so any info like your's would certainly be helpful.

Thanks BIGJOHNT

It's the wifes tag shes pretty excited!!
She drew it with 5 pts
It should be a great hunt!

The Heaston-East CWMU is as all are, managed by an operator. This is as you know Kennicott property and it is a mining business that happens to have awesome wildlife. The operator on this unit will guide you everyday. He will meet you at the gates every morning and evening until you fill your tag. Someone will accompany you every step of the way. You will not be allowed to scout before your hunt. When you find the bull you want to kill you better be calm and a very good shot. Because if you take the shot and wound the animal and it gets away your hunt is over! If you miss that is a different story of course you can still hunt but this operator doesn't allow you to wound animals and then go and shoot another one just because you can't find it. So I'd practice and stay calm. The operator is a very experienced outdoors man and hunter and has some very dedicated family members that often help during hunting season to fill all the tags on the unit. They know where the elk are and will go out of their way to help you harvest a great trophy. You will have a great experience I'm sure, however, it is probably going to be different than you are visioning it will go. Because of the strict oversight by Kennicott management and all the "RULES" of the mine, you may find it takes away form the experience. The good thing is, is that it is close to home if you live near Salt Lake City. And most likely you will fill your tag the first day. I tell you all of this because to me there is no point in learning the mountain or planning a scouting trip. Sit back, relax, practice and call the operator and get the details your self. Have a great hunt!

The bulls are big just like other units. You could hunt for a 350 plus and realistic chance at finding it. As for Youth hunting it would lend to that opportunity. Just like I said above make sure the hunter can make the shot. I've seen hunters leave the unit with a wounded animal and tag soup. Also they take this so serious that the employees that draw tags out there have to pass a shooting test before going hunting. The guys will really help you harvest youth or adult.
