Yep, I drew one of the two non-resident tags for early bow season!Pretty much of a once in a lifetime tag for me. After reading Randy Ulmers' story on his huge Nevada bull I think I might be in over my head a bit!! I just got my maps and looking over the area, its overwhelming. It is huge. I plan on heading over that way in mid July and having a look around. I really want to do it justice. I hear that country is rougher than a stucco bathtub! Not sure what Im in for but it will be a great adventure. Any body out there with any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Not sure what the weather in Nevada is in August/Sept but I bet it will keep you guessing. In July I can only imagine, I'll be hunting shade before the days over!

great tag,I assisted 2 hunters on this hunt in 2012.Be in elk hunting condition ... successfull hunter was, 323" net 6X6, and unsuccessfull, not in walking condition.Elk in all parts of Your unit groups.Best to get away from the roads and where quads can't go !!! Good Luck ... Bruce & SilverGrand

Thank you for responding, Im not in sheep shape yet but I will be by August. I stay fit year round. If you dont mind me asking, what is the weather like during early archery season?

weather ??? normally it is cool mornings and somewhat warm evenings, this is best so as elk will come to water before dark.No G. Bears in the "Silver State" or wolves in this part of Paradise, yet ...

Good news re bears and wolves! dont much care for either. Been hunting in montana and wyoming, the bears were a problem. Whole new set of pucker factors! Weather sounds perfect for elk. Is Ely only fuel source or are there some outposts here and there if you run low?

Keep in mind that the last week of your bow elk hunt is the Opening week of the overlap muzzy buck hunt.....

There was a service station in LAGES STATION just north of ELy at the "Y" of road 93 about 75 miles N/O ELY. Been a few years since going thru there.

does your hunt include 221-222 as well. There are a few areas in which I can direct you in as well, i believe that hunt include 111-115, 221, 222, do you have a GPS that has the capability of using Gps HUnting Maps? If not I would get one and I can help you dial in some spots to check out. If you go early you will want to hunt water. PM me and I can help you out with some specific spots that hold some good animals. I was in there last november, as well as durning archery season.

Nothing worse than a bunch of diesel cans sloshing around the back of pickup stinking up everything. sooner or later everything smells like diesel!! sounds like I will probably be up north of Ely on my July scout trip, I'll check out station then, thank you!!

My hunt only covers unit 111-115, and yes I do have gps! Any info on that would be greatly appreciated!! I didnt realize the muzzy overlap, I'll check into tag numbers. I plan on being there for the opener In August and staying till the end if I have too!! I like to fish so if there is any water around I'll be there a few days early! You all have my deepest gratitude for responding, hunters are a pretty good group of people!!

I had the 111--113 muzzy buck tag last fall as a 3rd choice draw.

There is no more fuel BTW @ LAGES STATION where 93/93A meet at the 'Y' so I just top off in Wendover....Brian looks like a fire ?? got the pumps??

Toss me an Email if ya want some specifics ~~ mikey.

I have seen many Elk up in the Kalamazoo area you might want to take a few scouting trips up there and check it out.

Gonna check it out, and thanks to you! What time of the year are you seeing elk in there? Mike

I would always see them the first week in Oct. when we would mule deer hunt up that way.

It hit 110 degrees oepening morning in 2011 when I had the tag. I hunted solo and ended up killing a 373 6x6. Even knowing the unit really well I scouted a ton and feel it paid off! Ill be helping a couple friends this year one archery and one early rifle there so I might run into you!

110 degrees doesnt sound like a lot of fun! But if you let a little adversity keep you out of the hills , might as well stay home! In your case it paid off with a great bull! Were the elk hitting water like crazy, or did you call him in? Hope I do run into you guys, lots of good luck to you! Mikey
