What states are they legal? I've seen a few trail cam pics that look like they include salt licks. They are not legal in Montana according to the Game Warden I talked to so I am curious.

Not legal here in Colorado either to hunt over one.

But trail cams over salt that your not hunting over just to see what game is in the area is a good scouting method just dot get caught hunting over one,

I don't use salt blocks I use granular mineral salt and I dig a hole and mix the dirt with the salt. It is more natural for the animals and they will actually use the pit more than a block. I always put them near water and I will dump a bucket of water in the pit and mix it real good. I have pits that are nearly 3' deep from all the animals using them. I use these for my trailcams and they work great, I have never hunted over them and most of the big guys come in at night...

I'd rather be huntin!!!!

I've wondered the same thing. When I was younger on a fall turkey hunt we came up onto a pretty big meadow that had salt blocks for the cattle but found deer all around them...NM

If I'm correct , no baiting is allowed for any big game animal here in NM...

pretty sure salt blocks are legal to hunt here in Arizona. Only thing you cant bait are migratory birds and bears.

I understood it was legal in Utah if it was a natural salt, not the blocks...
And as many are out there on the forest for the cattle, it doesn't help in those areas anyhow...

LAST EDITED ON Sep-28-07 AT 09:16PM (MST)[p]Yah! I think it's legal in Utah, besides I'm not sure it's unethical. Most of the hunting areas have cattle or sheep as well, so there are salt blocks all over the place anyway. That's how I captured the monster dik-dik on trail cam.
