I am supposed to go down to the Monroe unit this weekend with my uncle to scout for his early rifle tag. We have never been on the unit only heard good things so applied for the unit. Can anyone please point us in the right direction? Anything will help.

Check around Anabella reservoir and Big Lake area on the North end of the unit. Because of the fire in the Box Creek area they put a big fence which messed up some of the elk movement but there will be elk in the burn area's. Good luck on your hunt.

You prolly found this out by now but that unit is a JOKE on the week of the fourth!

Gunny, I drew a Monroe archery tag in 2008 despite never having been anywhere near the unit. I had one heck of a great elk hunt, and a lot of people got to enjoy it vicariously since I posted daily updates of my hunt. What 'ain't right' about that? What should be illegal about that?

That was a tounge-n-cheek comment...

I drew out on the cow tag down there back in the 90's. It turned out to be a really difficult hunt due to the warm weather not pushing the elk down into the legal hunting area. They all stayed up in the higher, off limits area. One day we went down to the cafe in Koosharem and ran into a couple of ranchers that were more than glad to point us in the direction of some elk. They were the funniest good ole boys you'll ever meet. We ended up harvesting our cows and had a great time. The bulls down there are oddly tame compared to other areas. They are not nearly as spooky as the bulls on the Wasatch unit. We bugled in some really nice bulls for fun. You are going to have an absolute riot on this hunt. If you get in a bind, go to that cafe for breakfast or dinner and see if they would be willing to give you some pointers.
