I went and retrieved my trail cam yesterday. It was fun to see all the photos I got since my trail cam days are done for the year. I didn't want my camera up there messing with the bow hunters in two weeks.
And there are still good people in the world. The spring I have been eyeing has had another trail cam on it and a tree stand. Well, as you will see from some of my photos, a very curious cow elk ate the strap that was holding my camera on the tree. When the owners of the other trail cam went up to check their camera they saw mine lying on the ground. So these awesome people strapped it back up with a bungee cord of their own. They are awesome people. They called me up (I left my name and phone # on the back of my camera) and let me know what happened. I have been sharing my photos with them. They are going to be up there for the bow hunt, and I will be up there for the rifle hunt in September.
I got some cool photos. Every time I go to this spot I see elk as I am hiking around. Tons of elk sign. I have found their beds, their tracks, and more. I am super pumped for my hunt. As of now though I have only seen one bull worth shooting. He would score about 340+. I haven't been able to get the big boy on camera yet, but with how many elk are in this basin, I'm pretty certain that once the rut hits I will be seeing some big boys.
I was an idiot and aimed my camera a little too high at first (I thought I had it right on the spring). So the first few photos are mostly antlers for that reason.
Here is a cool photo from a curious bull that was sniffing around my camera.
I got tons of photos of younger bulls hanging around like a bachelor party.
I really like this one because it looks like he is bugling.
Here is the naughty cow elk that knocked my camera down and took off with my strap. I couldn't find it anywhere. She probably ate it.
And here is my camera on the ground, still taking photos.
It looks like she is mewing.
Every time I go up I see bears. I swear it is a different bear each time on my trail cam too. This one has a big bare spot on his butt like the bear on "The Great Outdoors" with John Candy. It's pretty funny looking.
Some fog rolled in one day and I thought it looked cool with all of the elk at the spring.
Caught a coyote on my camera.
And a moose. She hung around for about an hour and filled up my card with photos.
