Got lucky again this year. Shot this guy at first light this morning after a very brutal hike up the steepest hill I have ever had the unfortunate pleasure to climb. But you know what they say about the end justifying the means, well this climb was definitely justified.

First shot was 251 yards, facing straight on. At the shot he turned and tried to run downhill, but was having a tough time with his front shoulder busted. 2nd shot was on the move and hit too far back, but put him on the ground. He still had his head up so I took another shot at 291 and killed him for good. He then proceeded to roll down the hill at a pretty good rate, luckily he has a decent rack that helped slow him down :) He finally came to rest in a somewhat awkward position. My first shot would have been fatal as it penentrated near the entire length of his body, I recovered the bullet in the rear ham.

As he lay......

LAST EDITED ON Oct-13-07 AT 03:38PM (MST)[p]SWEET!!! That is awesome! Gotta get me one of those guns one of these days. Jeran says that is a brutal hike. We nearly had a death pack today, but the snow came and Justin was unable to see the MT goats well enough to pick out the nanny on Willard Peak. We were waaaaay off the mountain.
Now for the elk. What do you have until Wed. or Thurs?
Good luck on that!

Jason "The Big Ol' Muley"

By the way, what bullet? Barnes, Hornandy?

Have till Thursday for ELk. You guys gonna try again for the Goat?

Bessy, I already have a .338, so why downgrade???

Justin is heading back up tomorrow and staying until tuesday night, then back again Thursday until the end which is Sunday.
I leave guiding to Wyoming Tomorrow and won't be home until Friday night. Back a day and then Wyoming again. So I won't be able to go with him again. Hopefully he will be able to get one. Tough to tell the billies from the nannies.

Sorry Bessy, no CWMU. This was pure public land, general season Buck action......Right here in the coveted No. region. I definitely consider this Buck my finest, as I worked my freaking tail off everyday for 6 days to find him. I think I am gonna sleep for about 3 days lol!!

Great buck - you're pretty consistent with nice 4x's! Nice to see the results of one these buck/bull combo tags!

What'd he tape out at on width? Looks good! CONGRATS!

Yes, this was the Buck Bull combo, this area gets some good amoutn of pressure during the gen rifle, so it was nice to haev a few less guys to deal with. Just had to work around those pesky Elk hunters.

26" wide.

Nice shootin' Tony! That does look like a heinous hike. Glad it was worth it in the end though. Great buck.

Jenn

Nothing wrong with that buck Tony!

300---funny!

Jason is your bud staying in the W-Basin little campground?

I could 'saddle-up' the 6x6 and go in and help him out.... that is brutal up there with the weather that has come in...

Get that bull down Tony!

Robb

Nice job Tony! Hey - what model is your 257? Vanguard or Mark V Deluxe?

It's the SBGM (Super Big Game Master) essentially just a Super lightweight with a black barrel and tan stock.

Nice buck, gotta love 'em when you work your butt off for them.

The vast majority of people don't realize that some of us expend tremendous amounts of energy to merely appear normal.

Well, now that you mention it, i have had some extremely good fortune over the last few years with Utah tags. Here is the last 4 Bucks I have killed with General tags here in Utah....

2002 Rifle 4x3 (picture of a picture, don't own a scanner)

2003 Muzz 4x5

no tag in 2004 due to Dedicated Hunter rules.

2005 Rifle 4x4

No tag in 2006 due to my dumb azz being to slow to buy one and them being sold out by the time I checked :(

Then this Buck in 07, I truly have been blessed to take some good Bucks here in my home state, in fact I have never hunted Deer anywhere else.

So now I dare somebody to tell me there is no Bucks in Utah....

Very nice Mr. Tony. Now I have a better understanding about hunting a week early. LOL. Looks like you earned that one.

RUS

Wow! You should hunt out of state some. You might be a legend waiting to happen.:) Those four bucks are all beautiful. I think there may be just a little more than pure luck involved. You're too modest! Congrats again this year Tony.

Eel

SWEET BUCK TONY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I JUST HAVE TO GET ME ONE OF THOSE. HOPEFULLY THIS WEEKEND. BUT I WILL HAVE TO DEAL WITH HE MASSES. THAT IS AN AWESOME BUCK. YOU DESERVE IT. TO BAD CONNER WASN'T THEIR WITH YOU. I WILL COME AND SEE IT THIS WEEK SOMETIME. AGAIN CONGRATS ON A SWEET PUB LAND BUCK.

BUGLEMN

THAT IS SWEET CONGRATS

Dadgum your on fire man nice bucks! I just hope some idiot doesnt dump on your hard work. Congrats great bucks.

Tony,

At the risk of being a bigtime latecomer on this.

Congrat's Big Time. Sorry. Just saw you're post.

You did good sir. And I see the little 25 did exactly
what you asked of it. Usually does.

That's a danged good buck. Bigger than any muley I've ever
shot.

Again Man........Great, great , great........

Keep it up.

Larry

Yeah, the rifle hit exactly where I was pointing it, which was a little bit of everywhere for the first 2 shots. I have no problem admitting I was suffering from a pretty good case of Buck fever!!! I haven't felt that for several years and it felt great!

Congrats!

I bought a .257 weatherby mag in the vanguard SUB MOA earlier in the year. I cant wait to try it out on these desert whitetail in about 10 days!!

Use a bullet of standard construction in 100-120 grs for those Whiteys and watch em drop like hit by a falling piano!

I plan on using the Barnes triple X in 100 grain. I also have 115gr. nosler.
Hopefully there is something left to pack off the mountain!
Jeff
