WHOOWEE!!! Only 1 week till the general deer hunt in Utah. Ain't nothing like it used to be. No cheerleader clubs selling cookies on main street. Ron's Sporting Goods doesn't stay open all night for two days before the opener. Kid's don't get out of school. No big buck contests in Vegas. 2/3rd's of Southern Kali ain't clogging the freeway ......... BUT!!!!

It's still pretty dang fun!

I killt me a Buck in a general unit today. Robbed some poor schmuck of a good Buck next Saturday :)
 
What do you mean "kids don't get outa school"? My kids sure do!
It aint like the old days but it still does a pretty good job of getting our family excited even though we've been hunting steady since the last week of August.

It's always an adventure!!!

Ok...here goes my big confession. I'm going hunting again for the first time in years. Next weekend. WOHOO! I'm way excited. It's never going to be what it was when I was a kid, but as RUS says...it's still going to be pretty dang fun. I just hope I don't get shot. So many people.

It's my husband's first deer hunt ever. His brothers all hunt but he just never has. That means he doesn't know how to gut a deer either. Oh great....guess I'll be taking some of Moosie's rubber gloves w/me. Shall I take some pink fuzzy slippers along for the post kill photo shoot too?? lol

You know whats even more fun? You all will be out hunting deer next weekend and I will be in wendover runnin it home to the women. WHAAA WHOOOOOOOO. Got my gun loaded and ready to go.

I heard some one say kids don't get out of school for hunting. Well that ain't the case with my boy. I took him out for a week during muzzle season. Got his first buck. When I turned in my vacation request they told me I couldn't have it off. I told them then they better start looking for another superintendent, because I was taking it off. Well, I took it off and still have a job.
 
My parents took us out of school for a week a time or two for the deer hunt, but schools used to give kids at least one day off for "Harvest REcess". (That's what SUU called it when they let school out for the deer hunt) Schools don't do that anymore though. What bugs me is, UEA (Utah Educators Association) conference is the 29th and 30th so the kids are out of school those two days, but it's when the hunt is over. My kids are out the last 3 days of the month. We could be hunting during that time, but we won't be. Oh well.

There is suppose to an artical in tomorrows paper here about school boys out hunting for deer since there is a local Big Buck contest in their location here in Kali I guess.
Will post the link tomorrow when it comes available and see what it is all about, sounds interesting though.

My kids will be out of school in Grantsville UT. They aren't even old enough to shoot deer yet. I'll have the oldest out with me one day hopefully
 
Here in the Sticks the kids still get out at noon on Friday and don't go back until Wednesday. We still have the Deer Hunters Brawl. We always were behind the times, Were just getting our first cell phone tower now.
 
Remember the days when the local Salt Lake news channels actually mentioned the deer hunt in the seven day weather forecast?

Mainstream Utah has gone down the shizzer.

I think the "sticks" are ahead of the times.
 
yeah lets try and keep it that way. I hate it when my local news paper talks about the deer hunt. Every year on the front page it always says "expect to see more young deer this fall" yeah and let's help them grow up a little bit so they can become bigger bucks. That would be a dream come true to see "more big bucks this fall" in the paper for once.
 
I do about 40 times a day, I love the Utah dwr. They do so much for us here in Utah.
