First elk!

After many blown opportunities in years past I was finally able to connect on my first elk on saturday! I had about a 40 yard shot through the trees at her shoulder and when I shot, she jumped my string and ducked and turned and it went into her neck cutting her juggular and going into her spine which dropped her in her tracks! Although she is just a cow, she will provide some great meat for us to eat and I couldn't be more excited! Plus I got my first set of ivories!!
Big thanks to Mike and Josh for all of your help! You guys are awesome!

Very cool! Congrats

My first archery elk was also a cow.

Still a trophy in my book.

She tasted just as good as any bull I have shot :)

My first elk with a bow was a cow. That was a long time ago and it is still one of my fondest hunting memories. Congrats

It has been my motto when Elk hunting is "if it brown it's down"
I like elk meat, I love the ES tags.
That cow will be some good eating stuff.

Thank you all very much! And nfh your not kidding! They're quick buggers! She knew I was there, she just didn't know exactly what I was. So she was just kinda curious as to what I was and as soon as she heard that string she was tryin to get out of there. Just wasn't quite fast enough though!!

Good job brother! Reminds me of my first(s). You'll never forget the first one.

Congrats Jeb! Heck she's twice the size of my first Elk (cow also). I think mine still had milk on her lips! Haha

Nice job on the cow! That will be some good steaks. You guys from Idaho? That area sure looks like a place I know in unit 69. Look out point perhaps?

Congratulations. Any successful elk hunt is a big accomplishment, and all the more so when the kill is made using a bow and arrows.

Congratulations on your success! Taking any critter with a bow is a huge thrill and an accomplishment.
Will make for many very tasty meals.
Best,
Jerry
