Silent Elk

I was up again scouting for my hunt, and it appears that the increased activity of the elk with bugling was short lived. Now that the temps are rising again, the elk are quiet. The only bugling I heard while I was up there the past two days was around 2:00 in the morning. Nothing going on during daylight hours. And, the rut doesn't appear to be in effect yet either as I saw several bulls roaming around together, no where near the cows. Probably another week.

And Remember this!

After a Fashion of TARDS Blowin Their Trumpets long before they should be & way too often it ain't really helping things!

Some of these JOKERS Sound like 600" Bulls!

What would you do?:D

+1 to Elkassassin's comment people will shut the elk down quicker than anything. Although I do believe there are other factors that conrtibute to them not bugling.

In Idaho it seems as the elk do a soft bugle. Where they start low and never really get higher. You have to be within 100 yards or so to hear them. It seemed to be a combination of the people and the wolves. I hardly ever bugle anymore, just small soft cow calls when I need to.

just need some cooler weather. Good cool rain shower, colder nights.

I had a 'bull' bugle at me from about a quarter mile away but I just walked in the opposite direction because I figured it was just another hunter. I hope the rain, cool weather and a week or two will get the bulls fired up. Cow calling is the way to go these days but it is still too early for that where I am at.
