Manti Trailcam Pics

I am very fortunate/lucky to have drawn a Manti Premium tag this year. I've been out most weekends since June looking for a good bull. Finally the last few weeks I've started to see a few good bulls. Last week I went into a new canyon and found a few good wallows. I put a cam on one of them and a week later I have pics of two good bulls coming in at night.

I have a couple of questions: As far as score goes they both score as shooters in my book but it's always fun to get a ballpark number as well. What do you think each would score? I really like the looks of the 6*7 even though the back end won't score well.

Next question: I have yet to see either of these bulls in the daylight. This wallow is on a north facing slope in the thick pines. There are aspen ridges to the north and the south. There is also a lot of thick pine timber further down the canyon. Where do you think I should start looking for them during the day?

Hope you enjoy the pics and thanks in advance for the help!

As the rut heats up, I am betting they will start hitting the wallows in the evening or early afternoon. If they are not being bothered, they won't go far and my guess is you will start seeing them in the afternoon/evenings before long..

We hunted the manti last year at the same time of year and I agree that as the rut picks up they will start being out more in the day. That being said, mid day they will be in the pines. Every evening we would watch them trickle out of the thick stuff and come out into the meadows or quakies. Last year my brother shot his bull as it came out of the heavy timber at about 6 PM. A few years ago my dad shot his bull while we were right in the middle of the thick pines around 11 AM. They will be talking but especially those first few days you are going to have to go at them rather than wait for them to come to you.

Fun hunt! Not as many big bulls this last year but there are still plenty out there.

Thanks for the comments guys! Things have really been picking up each week over the last three weeks. It will be nice to have a rifle in hand this weekend.

Anyone have a guestimates on the score of either elk?
