How is the opener?

>From my side of the glass
>it looks windy, cold, and
>miserable! ;-)

HAHA! Me too, I'm still in my PJ's getting ready to watch some football....

Helping my wife out with her tag, saw one of the biggest bucks I've seen in the past 5 years through the spotter about a mile away, maybe 200 yards behind a group of guys on a ridge (they didnt see it). We moved over around them and kicked it up at 40 yards, she couldnt get a shot. Farted around waiting for it to come out of some thick cover when it finally came out in the clear... she drew down on it and just as she went to touch off the trigger the other group below us finally saw it and one of their guys dropped it. :(

You can do that though Tony. You got a great buck hanging! Me? Nothing....YET!;-)

I am a fair weather guy in my old age and today does NOT look fun.

it was warm in the morning and at 9:30 it started to snow. HARD
before that i did see a few bucks one was a decent 4 point.

I'm waiting until Monday to hunt all week. I'm giving up all the rainy weather and ATV's all over the place. WHEW!

PS. The wife is going too, hopefully this will be the year she will get that first buck.

This morning the weather was great. Not too bad at all. At about noon though, a storm blew in and snowed us out. The roads were getting sloppy so we hit pavement and headed for the house.

Also, there were hunters everywhere where we went. Vehicle after vehicle, huge camp after huge camp, OHV's to the left, OHV's to the right, hunters in every draw....it was nuts. That part I did not like.

The scenery can't be beat though. Luckily though, we hiked around and got away from people and found some elk in a swale w/a creek running through the bottom. There were 4 bulls and some cows and calves. We quietly sat on a rock ledge and watched them for a while. It was pretty cool.

Here is some funny stuff I pulled from the KSL article on the opener....

"We got up there really early, so we had to wait until it got lighter just because we couldn't see anything. We sat up there and talked to our son, and then as soon as it got light we started going down the road."

Steele bagged her first deer ever today as soon as it was light.

This is the second year Drake Snyder has gone hunting, and this is the first deer he's taken home.

"It's about the third one that we've seen. We missed the first ones, but we got this one," he said.

Experienced hunters looked for easier opportunities.

Scott Miller said, "This one, we shot this not 30 yards from the truck, dragged it, threw it in. It was great."

Have not been on the Utah opener in 3 years. Went out opening day with my bro and our young boys. I was reminded why I quit hunting the general season in Utah as I watched rig after rig file into the area we were hunt'n. My brother did end up with a buck and our boys got to be apart of it so that part of the hunt was good.

...and many Tards are against cutting tags and/or spreading out pressure. Maybe I will tag along tomorrow and have some peace and quiet? Or, just do what Prism said and go to Colorado.:)

I was out Saturday and had a good day. I saw two other guys that were hunting together. Otherwise, I had my area to myself. It's amazing what a short hour of hiking will do for eliminating hunting pressure. It kills me how many people complain about the crowds. I've NEVER had a problem. Just have to wear out a little boot leather and you're all alone.

Didn't see much for deer. I'm sure the gale force wind didn't help. When the wind did let up the snow came and the clouds socked me in. Oh well, it's always good to be out.

I love how people complain about there being too many people. There is half the tags sold that there was 20 years ago. Sure there is less Deer, but nowhere near half as many.

There are some people here and there up in the hills but not like it was back in 1987.

I grew up hunting in the Book Cliffs and there were always alot of people out there then too, but I saw more than 100 campers where we went in just a 10 mile area. I've never seen anything like that. There were literally people everywhere.

Crazyness, I think that a lot of familys get involved in the general deer hunt.Out of about ten camps about half the people have permits for deer. I think a lot of people just like to get out and have a good time. That is good there is a lot of family's that go out and support the general deer hunt.
