diy mule deer

I am looking for advice on taking my sons to wyoming or Montana next fall 08 for mule deer.Looking for reccomendations on where to go and public lands. I have been out before with an outiftter but no way I could afford topay for 5 of us.At this point a trophy is not what we are looking for being their first time out I just want them to see deer and maybe get a shot. Any advice would be really appreciated.

unless your going to buck up for a landowner tag you should probably plan on hunting 2009 or 2010 if your wanting a Montana tag, and thats being optimistic. Your odds will probaly be better for Wyoming...............rf

You may want to look at idaho, they have some decent general hunts or put in the draw have just as much chance as anyone else for a good hunt.
