Well, my tag is punched.

Not the monster that is up there (long, long story) but still a good buck and one I couldn't pass up. The Ghost has a habit of disappearing when the guns come out, but this buck made the mistake of moving during the daylight. This is a great buck and I am proud of him but why is it that the big one always wins?

He looks like a toad! What did the better one look like? How wide is he? He's a reat deer in any unit. Great pics too.

Am I the only one on here wondering why you are complaining?

This is my post

I've just pissed in my pants.......and nobody can do anything about it.

Wow!! That is one nice buck.. As the others said, How big was the "big" one? would be doing backflips all the way down the mountain if I dropped the hammer on one like that.. As far as I am concerned he's pretty much got everything I would want in a buck.. plenty of mass, big deep forks, wide, tall.. oh hell he's got it all.. Congrats..

Guess I'm like everyone else...
We really feel sorry you had to shoot something that "small"...
Holy Crap...
I'd die for a buck like that!!!
And to hear you saved the big one for next year? Wow!!!
Congrats on a "GREAT BUCK"...in anybodys book!

Fantastic Deer. The big one putting the slip on you will only keep you motivated.

Man thats just a fantastic deer.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-26-07 AT 10:30AM (MST)[p]We are all very dissapointed in you. The nerve of you shooting that little deer. After all, if you shoot a littel one, you can't shot a big one. You should be ashamed and embarrassed. lol.

Damn brother, that is one helluva buck and the field photos aren't too shabby either. I leave for colorado in 110 hours, 34 minutes and 34 seconds, but whose counting. I hope I am able to stumble ona lil' one just like you!

Share some more picks and the long version of the story for all us addicts here that are jonesing for any and all details to get us through till out departure.

As for score, I think he'll break 190. This is a simular buck i kileld that goes 184.

Don't get me wrong guys, it was a privilege to be able to hunt and take this buck and I am definitely not complaining. But let me tell you about the one I was after and maybe you will have a better understanding of my original post.

The area is a draw area and most of you know how getting those tags are, I was lucky to draw the tag in 05 and really beat the odds when I drew it again this year. I found a buck the first year that was around 195 and just a beautiful typical. After spending every moment I could chasing him through the September archery hunt and then the rifle hunt, I began to refer to him as the Ghost. I lost a lot of sleep thinking of that deer. On the last day I could hunt in the 05 rifle season I was able to take a very respectable 28 inch buck.

Fast forward to 07, I have the tag again. The biologist for the area (who I went to High School with) told me he had seen a giant buck in the exact area. After archery hunting him most of September, I saw him for the first time on day 12. I was able to get about ten minutes of shakey footage and was amazed at how huge this deer had gotten. Not only antler inches but body size, he resembled a horse. After studying the video footage I estimated this deer to gross around 220 and net around 205, he had grown matching in-lines from his G-3's and a hook cheater on his left. I came extremely close to getting him with a bow but come the end of September he was still alive and well.

There is a two week timeframe between the end of archery and the start of the rifle hunt. I hunted his escape route on the first two days of the rifle hunt. I was worried about the amount of people that would be after him with a gun because he is no secret, many of the locals knew about this deer. Just like 05, the predawn pressure of opening morning pushed him through the saddle before it was light enough to shoot. My hunting partner spotted him along with four other bucks as they topped out against the skyline and disappeared, that was the last time I know of anyone seeing him. Now you know why I call him the Ghost.

Anyway, I have not been able to find where the Ghost goes once he is pushed from his core area. I was able to find the buck pictured above and make a good stalk and shot on him. He is a great buck and very respectable, I wouldn't have shot him if he wasn't.

Since I finally figured out how to post pictures, here are a few more.

This one is my nephew (we put in as a group so he had the same tag that I did this year), his first animal, he was pretty excited.

This one is my wife with her 07 antelope, she made a couple tough shots and I was proud of her.

Here is one more from 07

Good luck to all who still have hunts to do. I plan to help a couple tag holders who have 102 tags so hopefully I will be posting another pic of a giant muley.

Wow!! What a great buck to settle on! :) Absolutely love your buck from 05' as well. One of the more symmetrical bucks I've seen in a while. Congrats to your wife and nephew as well....those are all great trophys!

all them critters are outstanding...congratulations to the wife, nephew, and of course, your self. thank you for posting all the good pics...much appreciated on this end, for sure...

Beautiful Buck!
I "settled" for a decent buck this year too (although he was nothing like your buck)so I know exactly how you feel.
BY the way, I would Settle for a deer like that EVERY year!
(wouldnt we all)

By the way,
I live in UT.
There are a lot of UTARDS that live here.
I have also seen quite a few WYOMORONS, NEVADUHNS, COLORADORKS, ID-IOTS and AIRHEADZONANS in my travels.

Congrats X-tec. My dad had that tag several years ago. Do you go in on horses or do you hoof it back in there?

Congrats to the nephew and to your Mrs.. real nice harvest for them both.

The gene pool is working well with your '05 buck and the '07 buck looking so much alike...

Great bucks for you.

Robb

Thanks Guys.

Chester; I don't have horses (I'm pretty sure they don't like me from the little experience I have had with them).

Good Luck to all.

It's ok to leave seed for the next go around (hope I draw a tag LOL) That a pretty dang nice buck, But hey you know right where the big one will be hanging out next year. I like him.

The taxidermist taped him at 177 gross and 173 net, I guessed 174.

The pictures make him look bigger than he really is.

I am going to try and buy a video cable and download some footage of the deer I call the Ghost. We'll see what all of you think but I estimate this deer, taken with archery gear, to be a world record.

Hello Mr. WyoXtec I just finished watching your video on the ghost and reading your post and I believe I harvested that same buck On October 30th. you are close in your score estimates he gross scores 223 and nets 207. he was 7 1/2 years old and was probably at his prime. tell me do you drive a blue GMC with the plate number of 4-18. let me know your picture looks like the guy that was driving that truck. If you are from wyoming I will show you the pictures of this tremendous buck. The rest of these idiots from utah will just have to dream and stay in there own state!!!!! I have a question for you did you archery hunt this deer I found two scars on him that the biologists say were from arrows. if not you somebody came close to killing this pig.

Congratulations muley hunter, yes, that is my license #.

I would be very interested in seeing this deer in person, spent a ton of time chasing him. I know both of those scars well.

I have quite a bit of video footage of this deer from both 05 and 07 if you would like a copy, he was a great world class deer. A new archery world record if I could have sealed the deal. Congratulations, give me a call as I would love to hear about the hunt.

Tory,
Congrats on your deer, I know you were really hot on the ghost buck, sounds like muleyhunterfromhell was able to tag out on. Was ghost in the same area as Dean and I saw earlier in the summer?

BTW, did take a pretty good moose on opening rifle, 43", good palms and 8x10
