Lost my DREAM bull on the Wasatch.

I drew a Wasatch Muzzy Elk tag. I passed up MANY NICE BULLS. Friday night I found the bull of my dreams. He was a solid 350-360 bull. He looked like he might of had about 8 on one side. His tines went close to his butt. He was the herd bull of close to 20 cows. I was set up where I thought the elk would come out for water. I was just 10-15 yards to the east sitting in the wrong spot. He passed below us and then it got quite. A bull in front of us bugled, then the bull that went past us bugled. My buddy and I looked at each other and said he is out in the open. He stayed put while I went to take a look at him. I got to the tree line and seen how huge he was. I ranged, set up for the shot and bang. He stopped, and his cow's took off. I reloaded and bang. I know for sure I hit him good with my second shot. I reloaded, and my buddy told me to hold off on the 3rd shot. Well I didn't listen and shot. He hunched a little and took off. I went to reload , but didn't have anymore speed loaders on me. They were in my pack. My buddy took off to get my pack while I cow called trying to stop him. Nothing would stop him. He was hit good. I could've ran faster then him. The Next 3 days I looked for him. We only found like 3 drops of blood. I ran into an archery hunter coming to pick up some stuff he left behind. He knew the bull I was taking about. Two guys that watched it go down, said they knew he was in there as well. They put a rifle Hunter in on him, but he would never show up. I had him. I'm sick to my stomach. If anyone finds a huge dead bull on the Wasatch PLEASE pm me. I send an email to the fish and game to talk with the game warden. I would pay a 500.00 finders fee. I turned up a huge 370-380 bull the morning before the opener where I had been scouting. I had a fun hunt that turned into a nightmare. I know I'll probably never find him but worth a shot at it.Pm me if you have any info on a big dead bull. He was on the south side of the highway.

I hope you find your bull. I know your pain. My dad lost his bull three years ago on his LE muzzleloader hunt. We searched and searched for his bull and never found it. It still haunts us both to this day!!

Of the three muzzy elk hunts I've been a part of NONE of the three bulls left any blood. Two luckily died within eye sight and the other we had to track down and finish off.
One bull took 9 slugs. The other took 4 or five. I don't remember the slugs that were used but they were all different.
I'm pretty leery about shooting a mature bull with a muzzy again.
Hope you find your bull. Best way is to get out there and put some miles on your boots and binos.
Take a dog up with you.

With 3 solid hits he should be dead. Could you round up a bunch of guys to go in and grid the area? I know I would love to come help you recover your bull! I'll bet I could get some dudes together to help as well. Let me know.

First of all, good luck finding your bull. I hope you can turn him up. I know the feeling all too well.

Second, I don't understand how people can blame the muzzleloader for a bull not going down. A 45 cal. White Super 91 Shooting 100 grains of Pyrodex P and a 460 grain No Excuses bullet has worked pretty good for me. The bull I shot two years ago dropped in his tracks with a 40 yard shot between the shoulder blades and the bull I shot this year didn't go 15 yards. Shot him at 135 yards right behind the left shoulder. He hit the ground hard and never moved again.
That being said, I made a bad shot on a good bull last year and never did turn him up. I spent two days looking and it still haunts me to this day. Longer shot than I was comfortable with but I took it anyway. The blame was all on me because I know dang well the gun is capable of doing it's job as long as I am.

Taken 2 bulls a 348 and a 373, with my muzzy, 1 shot with 150 grains and a 250 gr hot shot, and the other my son at 14 years old and 100 gr and a 250 gr hot shot, neither bull went more than 30 yds. Dont think you can blame the muzzy!! Hope ya find the bull!!!!

Get a posse together and hit it hard, guys on horses the whole works, Doesn't hurt to try a different approach.

berry butt, sorry if I make stupid people look bad,,,,but then you would never do that,,,, if you want to stick up for people that ' takes 9 shots , to kill a elk go for it. I wont,,,,

You have at least 3 guys here willing to help you, which is awesome by the way. Get back up there and find your bull. GO into the wind and use your nose. Take a dog with you. Then come back and post the pics.

I'm trying to get a hold of hollie with the fish and game. She is the game warden for the area I shot him in. I want to find out what I need to do so it's legal. Thank you guys that are offering to help find him.

Let me know when you get the dates for the group effort if the fish and game gives you the green light. If my schedule allows I would be up for helping you look.

I'll let you know soon as I can. Still can't get a hold of her. Her cell just rings then says her voicemail is full. Might be awhile. I had a couple people hit me up about the dead one in the lake. My buddy and i swear he looked like he might of had a extra or two on him. I had 3 other people that watched it go down. I went and talked to one of the guys that watched it all unfold. I asked him if he thought he would hit the 350 mark. He said o $#!+ ya. I got a blurry pic of the bull I hit. I shot him heading toward water just before dark. I've lost sleep over this bull. I've also lost weight. There is a couple Lil things I could if done diff, and I wouldn't be in this mess.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-09-13 AT 12:47PM (MST)[p]http://www.monstermuleys.info/photos/user_photos/3800img_2407.jpg This is the bull I lost. It's a blurry pic, but it's better then nothing. I found two tree stands next to a lil pond, just I the south of strawberry. If anyone was hunting just on the south of strawberry, and had a trail cam set up please pm me. I'll tell you where I seen them. I'm hoping that who ever they belong to had a trail cam in there and got pics of the bull I hit.

Not sure what a climber is. It looked like nut things in the tree. Maybe where pegs go into? They looked like newer tree stands. I don't want to say the exact area, cause I don't want people to go mess with them. Just hoping I can find the owners to see if they had cams up in that spot. Would love to get a good pic of the bull I hit. Not sure the bull in the lake is mine or not. My buddy and I swear it looked like he had extras. Maybe it was the angle that is throwing us off. I hope someone can clean up the pic I posted to get a more clear pic of him.
