I'm From southern utah and live in slc and have never hunted the WF or any of northern utah for that matter but I have been hunting the front here for a few weeks now in the millcreek canyon and lambs areas seeing TONS of tracks up high but no elk!!! A little frustrated on not locating the elk Just wonderin if anyone has any input or if they could help out Thanks!!!

I ve spent years on the front trying to find elk. These last couple years we have been successfull. If your finding fresh track your doing good. Just keep at it! Hike tell your legs feel like there gonna fall off and then hike somemore. Elk hunting on the front is extremely diffcult. Good luck!

They hide and don't talk. They hide in the thickest stuff and stay hidden all day. They rarely come out during the day time while the hunts are in full swing.

Good luck!

Its like playing hide and seek with the oldest and wisest person in the world...

I've been on bulls every weekend well just about every weekend just like these guys have said Google Earth glass hike your but off bulls can be call shy but I've called in my fair share and had opportunities go south and had bad angles just the typical trials of archery hunting.

I too am currently struggling to find the elk. I had them located and patterned early in the season (when I was after my muley) and now that I am in elk mode, I cant seem to find them. Figures!

I have been in areas with lots of sign and have talked with friends who have recently seen elk in these areas but I always seem to be one step behind.

It has not been easy getting out to my regular areas recently with all of the rifle activities that have been going on. Once the rifle deer hunt ends hopefully I can get out into these areas and make it happen. Until then I will be sticking to the archery only areas.

Question for everyone, how late into the season have you seen rutting activities on the wasatch extended? I have heard the cows go through two to three estrus cycles? Perhaps I can still find a pocket of rutting elk?

I am curious how most wasatch extended hunters hunt elk post rut? my post rut elk experience is limited but I have hunted them a few times post rut. It seems the big bulls isolate themselves and try and recover from the rut in fertile areas? Hunting them post rut is more like spot and stalk mule deer hunting.

Do all of you find this to be the case?

I find myself getting out in the WF by myself a lot recently...
If anyone is interested in getting out shoot me a PM.
