I feel pretty good about my season this year. I could have shot 3 different bucks, all within range. Two of them were just too small for me to put my tag on and the other one would have been a very nice 4X4 if he hadn't have broken off his left G2. We already had a cow elk in the freezer so I was not meat hunting.
The only thing I regret is that one of the smaller bucks I let live was harvested the next day by someone else. Just didn't find anything I wanted to put my tag on. I guess after putting one on the wall a couple of years ago, I'm getting more selective. I feel my season was a success, even without the gut pile! Anyone else?

Its fair chase, or its foul!

I'LL PROBABLY GET REPRAMENDED ON THIS!!!

YOU'RE RIGHT!!!

YOU DON'T HAVE TO MAKE A KILL TO BE SUCCESSFUL!!!

CONGRATS ON LETTING THE "PISSCUTTERS" WALK!!!

I'M PROUD OF YA!!!

THE ONLY bobcat THAT KNOWS ALOT OF YOU HAVE HAD THIS IMAGE IN YOUR PEA BRAIN BUT DUE TO POOR SHOOTING TACTICS I'M STILL KICKIN!!!

I understand about being more selective. One year (71 or 72) went to Colorado and couldn't find anything I wanted to shoot and on the last evening I let a pretty nice 2x3 go, now mind you he was about 60 yards away and feeding for about a 1/2 hour but I decided to let him walk. I was the only one out of our group that didn't at least shoot a meat buck. The guy's with me thought I was crazy but I didn't drive all the way from California to shoot something I didn't really want. I guess the point I am trying to make is I learned from that trip the success of the hunt was not measured by pulling the trigger.

By the way,
I live in UT.
There are a lot of UTARDS that live here.
I have also seen quite a few WYOMORONS, NEVADUHNS, COLORADORKS, ID-IOTS and AIRHEADZONANS in my travels.

I think I've killed enough deer now that I'm getting more selective, I'd rather someone else shot the buck like in your situation, or there's a chance he's bigger the next year. I didn't tag one this year in CO, could have shot a big fork but just let him go. My buddy shot a smaller fork and thought I was crazy for not doing the same after paying for the NR license and week off work, I just laughed with a content and proud feeling that I made the right choice for me. I paid for the experience and time in the field, the hunt, a chance at a big one, and comroddery, not the meat. I know I could've killed and that's all I need.

I agree with you guys. Its not all about killing something. Hunting is much more than that. fatrooster.

+ 4,5,6,7 FOR MY GROUP....SOME 3 & 4 POINTERS....NO WALL HANGERS THOUGH. ALOT OF KALI GUYS HEADHUNT.....YD.

I don't regret letting the bucks go i passed. I might lower my standard for this last week. 180 to 190 was the mark before I might go down to 170. Ron

Still hunting the extended archery hunt on the front. Have passed up 7 different 2 points and a small 3 point. I still have no regrets on those decisions as it allows me to hunt longer. And hunting longer makes me happier then harvesting a meat buck-especially when I've got a ton of elk meat in the freezer.

I look at it this way....The longer I get to hunt, the more experience I gain on the species being hunted and the better I become at the sport that is my passion. I view every year as a success because I walk away from each hunt with greater knowledge and skills. Just my two cents.

You have to pass for big success!
I drew a NV unit 22 tag after seven years of unsuccessful. Scouted and found two good bucks in aug & sep.
Passed alot of 160-170 bucks looking for these two bucks.
I just could not bring my self to to dent a cap.
on one of these bucks.
so add my name to the list.
