Extended Elk

Does anybody know a general area I might be able to find an elk in the Wasatch front extended unit? I want to get one or so last hunts in before the end of the Extended Archery! Also has anybody hunted the Sanpete valley unit, if so how is that?

I dont know anything about the wasatch but the sanpete has been pretty slow this year, a lot more people in the area i was at last year and the year before, those previous years my dad and me were the only people there. Most are still up high or hangin on private, hopefully the snow pushes more down! Good luck to ya!

Nobody is going to answer this question. hunting elk on the extended is tough. Once you find the elk you don't really want to give up your spot.


You need to just hike to the top of a mountain and get your spotting scope out. That is how I found the elk.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-04-13 AT 10:56PM (MST)[p]There are more people hunting the Sanpete extended this year cause they all want to give it one last shot cause after this year the DWR is most likely going to close this portion of the extended down. Central rack voted to end it after this year for bull elk, but you can keep hunting the Sanpete extended for cow elk next year. Which in my opinion is a bunch of BS. Who in there right mind would fight the snow and freezing temps with archery equipment to kill a cow elk?

If any of you have enjoyed this hunt there will be a Dwr board meeting tomorrow at 9:00am at the DNR building in Salt Lake City, to voice your support on this issue.
