Record bull for the state of Montana killed this year, but was confiscated by game wardon cause was shot 9 minutes before legal shooting time

This bull was probably being watched by others at the time. It's a shame the hunter felt compelled to take him before shooting hours.

If it was only 9 minutes I say taking the bull is B.S. The reason being is unless the fish and game officer was right there its hearsay, and sometimes your watch can be off so who is to say the hunters watch was not off and he though he waited until legal shooting light. 9 minutes is a hard call now say a hour or 30 minutes yes but thats really close to cut it, personally I have never shot until way after legal to shoot. The reason for this is due to me not seeing a buck or elk until at least 30-45 minutes after legal light, or hours before legal light when hiking into my location.

Then you never hunted near Gardiner. Mobs of hunters (and wardens) waiting for the bulls to come out of Yellowstone across open flats and are visible before legal time.

Saw this on Facebook it said a man and his wife set up on the bull and waited for shooting light when a non resident from Georgia killed him they got into it over him shooting the bull before light and the fish and game was called.

Too Bad he lost the Bull due to a 9 minute time,But if it comes down to a he said they said, Who will win that.
Sounds like some-one was having a sour apple day.

Ya it sounds like everyone had a bad day! That's what happens when a trophy is found in an accessible area I guess.

Classic case of "sour grapes v greed" for sure.

Too damn bad for everybody.

Russ,
I stopped carrying a watch several years ago and rely on my cell phone for time. I guess in a place like that, I'd best keep my phone handy! LOL

Competition for an animal is the one thing I hate about trophy hunting . It takes all the fun out of the experience, if you have to beat somebody else to the punch.

I hunted Gardiner in 07. Crazy! Wardens are there every morning watching their cell phones. Hunters with their guides will surround Decker flat on their horses and charge out at first legal light. Elk running everywhere, mostly cows, with bulls being chased til someone can jump off and shoot. Its like watching a old western with the calvary chasing indians. I only had one legal bull in my scope,15 minutes before legal light. You didn't dare shoot. Way to many witnesses wearing orange vest. That bull scurried back into the park just in time.

awesome bull but that doesn't sound very safe or very fun dealing with a mob like that. We gotta be better than that as a hunting community. Just gives the anti's ammo against us.

Sad to hear it's like that. My question is how do they prove that? I'm thinking the only way is if the warden was around and heard the shots before legal shooting hours. otherwise its he said she said.

Or a video with date and time... Willing to bet there were more than a couple guys after that bull. To bad it was taken illegally.

Can you imagine scouting that bull getting set up first light and then bam having it shot from in front of you as you waited for legal light. That would really suck!

Just saw this pic. WOW!!!! Unreal. I want one like that! Who don't, right?
