I'm heading to the Powder River country in eastern Montana in a few days and am wondering about the rut activity. I'm assuming the warm weather has slowed things down abit. What are you seeing?

in the western half everything seems to be right on schedule, theyre still just a bit higher up than normal for this time of year. id think down there though that wouldnt be a problem

I just got back from eastern Montana and the muleys were just starting, chasing does but the whiteys didnt look like they were. Another week and it should be good.

Just returned from Central Montana and the bucks are in FULL rutt, chasing and bothering the does all over the place. We even saw a small 4x4 with an antler sticking out of his very bloody left eye. Later, we saw a small fork horn, with his right antler missing.
Should be good!

Thanks for the replies. Spoke with the guide I'm hunting with. He hunts 4 different ranches, all within an hour or so of Miles City. The one closest town has the rut going full bore. The ones a little more than an hour east of down, nothing is goin on. He has seen this before. He said Friday was outstanding for seeing several big bucks (a 13yr old missed a shot at a buck they guessed at 195) but things slowed down Sat and Sunday. I'll know in a couple of days.
