WB, summed it up well. The unit is pretty thick with trees. He makes it look a lot more fun than it is walking through that :)

I guess a lot of it may depend upon what your expectations and desires are?

I guess you could say they are high I was told there are 380 bulls there if you work for them I was waiting for Pahvant but I here it's not as good as it was but may still be worth waiting for

I believe there are 380 bulls on most units in Utah. You see pictures of them every year.
If you don't think the Pahvant is worth waiting for, then I think you will be disappointed in Fishlake. Are there big bulls on Fishlake? Sure there is, but if you have never been on the unit, or only been on it a few times, you are going to be in for a big surprise. The average bull that comes off the unit is 320-330. There are a few 350+ bulls shot every year but not very many.
My family has hunted up there for numerous years, and we are still learning the unit. It is a big unit.

If 380 is what you are set on chasing I would stick with the Pahvant. The Pahvant has more of a history with big bulls being harvested. Not saying FL doesn't have a 380 bull roaming its hills, but I don't see it giving you a better chance at one (even if the quality is down).

If you were wanting to finally hunt and have a chance at a 350 type bull knowing you could potentially find something bigger, but more than likely something smaller, FL might make sense.

I would suggest doing a search on here for FL and see some of the bulls that are posted. That will give you a better idea with what FL has to offer.

Thanks for the info you guys I really appreciate it obviously I have a decision to make and this will help

I have hunted there a few years ago to help out friend the first time I was impressed with what I seen the second time not impressed at all but it has been a few years and things change so again thanks for the info

I had the Fish tag and would hunt there again in a new york minute. That pic is my hunting buddy and it was a brushy bi ch up there in parts. The brush was in two "waves" if that makes sense. Once you get thru it, all is fine. It keeps the riff raff outta the Elk spots. Never saw a person other than Stanley in there and was looking for his cattle. The intel was correct, nobody gets more than a little ways from the road.
BigJohn and AntlerRick are the fishlake guys but they don't talk much and I don't blame them. Rick and his family have done very well up there.

Bob, you know there are NO elk on the Fishlake. I come off my waiting period this year and will be putting in there to confirm there are NO ELK on the unit. *evil grin*

Most people say I talk too much....
As far as a 380 bull, there are for sure a few up there each year, but the Fishlake can be a tough unit to hunt. If you are shooting for a 350 type bull, it is reasonable with the time and willingness to pass others. Spencer's post was pretty much right on. I don't know if you can guarantee a 380 on the Pahvant either. My suggestion is go and hunt and enjoy the time and be happy with whatever you decide to harvest, wherever it may be. Once it is down, and you know the score, so what.... it is still the memory of the way the hunt came together and the people with you. You don't tell your story with "the 380 inch bull was coming up the ridge"... The numbers are just the way to convey what size the bulls antlers were, not the memories that it created..
