LAST EDITED ON Nov-12-07 AT 03:22PM (MST)[p]Am I able to hunt bowhunt AZ for mule deer this year just by buying an OTC tag or am I required to pass the archery course first? How does the licencse work if the tag is good for half of Dec. and most of January? My bro-in-law has hunted around Wicceup but it has been a few years. Just wondering how much things have changed. Thanks for any info. I'm thinking of making a trip the third week in December.

Yes you are able to hunt. No course is required for AZ. You have to buy a license and OTC tag for 2007 that is valid until Dec. 31. After that you will have to buy a license and tag for 2008. The tag that is valid in Jan is also valid in Aug, and Dec of the same year. But you cannot hunt in Jan with your Dec tag.

Sweet....thanks for the response. I'm assuming that the bucks are still rutting in Dec. or just finishing the rut? I recall reading about a state requiring a course for archery hunters. Any idea? Thanks

In the desert units they generally rut the last few days in December through the first two weeks of January. At least that's what I've found over the years in the areas I bowhunt.
