Hello all, first timer here, want to start planing this years elk trip, it'll be my 12 year old sons first one, he's the oldest of 3 boyz, so this will be the start of a new family tradition. Looking for cow elk hunt, that would be enjoyable for him, and me. We will be driving from FL, camping from the truck. Was thinking of either muzzleloader season or a late rifle hunt. Any starting point would be helpful,
Thanks

I'd reccomend a late cow hunt in december. I'd recommend units 3,301, 11, 211. Unit 10 could be a good option also. Im typically free december and would be willing to lend a hand in helping you're son take his first elk. Loving seeing the younger generation get involved! PM me if you need anything.

Just got to say how impressed I am with some of you guys willing to be so helpful with strangers that need help when visiting your state for a hunt, like in this case. Class acts.

Here's a piece of advice from one father to another. Take a good look at some of the youth only elk hunts offered in Utah, New Mexico and other states. My son drew a youth any bull tag at 17 years of age and we had a great hunt. The year before he drew an Arizona muzzleloader elk tag and we had a great hunt there too. Some of those western states have premium quality hunts for elk that are youth only hunts. Don't overlook them, they are worth it in so many ways.

+1
Arizona and New Mexico do a great job in offering quality youth tags.
