DEER SHEDDING IN NOV!

Nope not me but I did shoot one in Oct and when his horns hit the ground the dirt sucked all the nutrition out of them and made them smaller before I got to them , I think that is more of a problam :D WOW did you have the anlers fall off a deer you shot that sounds like he might not have been in good condition you might want to have him checked for CWD, That is the only reason I can think of a antler falling off in Nov.. Did it fall off like it would have shed or did part of the skull cap come off with it???

I was hunting Southwest Colorado
last week, I found this buck,
A 26 inch 7x4 I decided to shoot
him.
I dropped him in his tracks.
When I got up to him both of
his antlers were laying next to
him!
I do alot of shed hunting and
the skull and antlers looked just
like fresh sheds.

I took video and pictures of the
whole thing, other than the deer
on the hoof.

When I got home a friend of mine
told me his son in law shot one
in Northern Utah the last sunday
of the rifle season and the same
thing happened.

Ya know there is a shed season in Utah!! I don't think you can pick up those antlers until late spring!!! Just razzin you! I have heard of antlers falling off of bucks shot in December but never November! That is just crazy. What kind of shape was the buck in?

Oops I now see you were in Colorado. My bad. Good job on takin a nice buck!

The deer was in great shape,
lots of fat on him.
He was chasing doe's and
posturing.

I have taken alot of crap
from friends.
We all threw in money for
a big buck contest but they
havent made a ruling on my
score yet.

Ha ha....I could see my friends trying to pull that same trick on me. Acting like some old sheds were on a buck he killed this year. That's funny!! Good luck with that one.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-14-07 AT 01:35PM (MST)[p]Well now you can maximize the spread credit!

Yea it was a little funny,
when my wife showed my dad
the cell pictures he was wondering
where I bought them.

It was a 300 win mag at
100yards.

The contest is gross score plus
outside spread, I can actually lay
it out to about 38 inches!

"Has anyone ever shot a buck in
November and had the antlers
come off?"

Yes, several times-with the rest of the head.

Son

It's a good thing you took him... That deer would have literally been "screwed" if he shed his antlers in a fight for dominace.

UTHunting---LMAO,,,I think that has happened to a lot of us.Damn soil in the western states anyway. We were hunting in Nevada one year and a friend killed a misjudged size buck and when he was checked by the warden he asked if he could catch and release it and get an upgrade tag. The warden didn't think it was too funny but the rest of the hunting crew laughed.

It happened a few years ago on an Eastman's video. They were hunting Montana. Brad Ferris with Primos did the same with a whitey. Pretty wierd. Post some pics please. I would love to see.

Yeap pictures.... Let's see pictures... The burr of the buck should be speckled with really light colored blood.

I remember that Eastmans video. Late Montana hunt and some older guy shoots a pretty nice deer and one of the horns came off just like a shed??? So maybe it can happen.

My son saw one small buck just 2 days ago from a tree stand looked like 1 side had fallen off not sure though still hunting the front.

could be possible.I was out on the extended archery and came across a small buck that had already lost one side. Shedding or fighting I couldn't tell.
