Here's a pic of the buck my son and I took on our hunt. Long story, but he's "our buck". I ultimately made the shot, though I had him in position for it first (he missed, we thought he hit, and I then thought I was shooting at the other 4pt in the group), but he ultimately fell to my shot. Regardless, we scouted him together from as early as June (have pictures and video from Sept. and Oct), hunted him together, made the decisions together, stalked him together, etc.

Anyway, an absolute dream hunt. My son now realizes the satisfaction that can be felt only by someone who has worked hard for, scouted, and taken the buck they planned on. He now understands why I dislike road hunters so much.

Fortunately, we called in a bobcat on the "way out" from hunting, and he took him. A 3 year effort finally rewarded, and he was stoked. Perfect end to a near perfect hunt.

So, here's our buck.

Taxidermist said "190 easy" but I'm just not seeing it unfortunately. Hoping for 180 at this point, but if he don't make that, it certainly won't diminish the hunt or the deer one little bit in my eyes. He's certainly got one of the nicest looking racks I've seen in a long while, IMO.

Regretfully, we didn't weigh him, but he was a PIG. Everything the kid and I could do to get him in the back of the truck. I got back 103 lbs. of boneless off of him. He had a 23" ear spread, and 25 1/2 outside spread.

Great looking buck! Love that mass. I bet he goes 180. But congrats regardless!

I have a shed that looks very similar to that buck. I found it between espee camp and cataract. Any chance thats close to where you killed it? It would be really cool to know.

Congrats on a Great deer and even more so for being a great dad. Sharing this with your son has to be a life long memory for him. Your son is a lucky young man. Priceless!

Great buck! You should copy and paste the entire story from AZSJ along with the scouting pics of the buck, I'm sure everyone will enjoy.

Very cool, and anyone who can get a big buck in that unit has had to work hard! Not alot of deer.

I like your taxi's guess. Very good looking rack too. You've done the tough part in killing him, measuring it is the easy part. Put the tape on every tine and beam, measure 4 circumferences and the INSIDE spread. Get calculator, add and walla!!! The only catch on Muleys is the 4th mass measurment is on the G2 1/2 way between the beam and the fork.

Congrats.
