CO 54-55

My Dad and I have enough ppoints to draw a 54 or 55 archery tag next year. I have to put in for my vacation at work shortly. What is the best week to go? Does the muzzleloader season booger the deer up at alpine level? I cannot leave until the day after labor day and I really would like to kill a muley hard horned rather than in velvet. I know the habits change alot after shedding. Any help would be great! WI Shehdhead

If you want the best chance at killing a deer, I'd go as early as possible.

The advice HiMtnHntr gave you was the advice you needed. Bucks in velvet avoid thick cover mostly because their antlers are tender. They are also on a summer feeding binge to fuel the growth. You will be able to find them better at this time because they are out in the open feeding and even bedding.
Go early, catch them dumb and before the muzzleloader season when velvet is gone.
