Nevada Elk late rifle units 231-242 and 221-223

As a non resident I need help from any members, resident or non resident, who have hunted elk in Nevada units 231-242 and 221-223 during the late season (Nov 21 - Dec 4). I have 13 non resident bonus points. I plan to apply in these units as my 2nd and 3rd choice for muzzleloader (Oct 22) but only 1 non resident tag is available for each. Conversely, for the late rifle hunts in these units, 6 and 7 non resident tags are available. Is it worth using 13 acquired non resident points for either of these two late season elk hunts? IF DRAWN, I COULD ONLY HUNT NOV 30 - DEC 5. I am trying to stay away from any of the so called "best" units that Garth Carter and his 13,000 - 15,000 Huntin Foolish subscribers read about due to the fact that if one takes his advice, statistically they stand a much lower chance of drawing a tag!!! Please advise.

I've hunted the late hunt across the road in 13 twice. The late hunts are not easy and I would pass if I could only hunt half the season. Why not apply for the early rifle hunts in 22 and 23?

Sagebrush, I killed a nice bull in 231 last November. You can find my thread under "Nevada Bull" with the last post in mid-December. I've also just replied to it to bring that thread to the top so you can read it more easily. I killed my bull on the early rifle hunt, but know a fair bit about the late hunt too.

If you'd care to PM me, I'll be glad to give you more information about that hunt.

CAelkhunts - how do I send you a PM? I would like to talk with you personally about the late elk hunts. I can not hunt the early time frame because I stand a 75%
chance (8 points) of drawing a Wyoming limited quota deer hunt during the same time frame. I'm thinking of going guided so I sure want to use my acquired 13 non resident points in Nevada wisely.

nocal -
Have not seen the pm come through. Does that mean to my personal e mail address? Or should I post my personal e mail address here and phone number? Don't really know what is permisable or advisable on the Monster Muleys Forum.

I think you would be nuts not to put in for the late rifle hunts. In my opinion they are much better than the muzzleloader season. In your position I would do 111-115 L 221-223 L and 231L.I have hunted 111-115 and 221-222 quite a bit and there is absolutely no difference between the early and late hunts. If you are in decent shape and dont mind walking I think you would have a chance at a 330+ bull only reason I dont say bigger is because of the lack of time you have. Another option you could consider is just a point this year no point in cutting yourself short on either one of your hunts. If you want PM me and we can talk more.

Yes,
I'd like to PM and talk more. I've pretty much decided on what you suggested except for the order. I guess 231 late is the last choice. Only question in my mind is whether or not to apply for muzzleloader at all as my first two choices. How do I PM to send an e mail and phone #? I exercise daily and have hunted out west having lived in Wyoming for 13 years. Don't want to just drive around in a truck and expect to see something. Want to get out and hike or ride and get away from all the others.
