Lying So Called Buddies

Here is the situation. A couple of buddies had tags for a unit out of state and recently went hunting. After the hunt I heard every excuse why they didn't get any deer(weather, genes, drought, guides, cattle, illegals etc). Well I was quite suprised as these two have quite a reputation for takeing some good animals. Well I get a call Saturday from a friend who tells me his brother heard from a top guide in the state that my two "buddies" killed smoker bucks both over 200" and are trying to keep the entire thing secret so a bunch of Utards including me don't put in for the unit next year.

What should I do?

Should I call BULLSH#$@ and confront them on it? I was thinking of setting up trail timer camera at one of their houses to see if I could catch them coming in and out of the house with the racks.

I am trying to get pics of the bucks from the guide and will post as soon as I get them.
 
If it is true you should stop calling them buddies, because they would not be buddies just acquaintances. And bad ones at that.

And I agree.........they are not much of a "buddy" if they can share info...I would not share it with everyone! but I sure would take care of my buddys!!!!!!!!!!!

This makes me want to puke! If they want to keep it a secret let them! If I lived in UT I damn sure wouldnt want to tell anybody where I found a good spot to hunt.

Your post here is exactly why they didnt tell you a damn thing! They are the ones that should be questioning your commitment to "friendship". Please tell me your kidding about spying on them in their own homes with a friggin trail cam

Seriously, this type of BS is completely turning me off of the whole damn sport. What a shame

stretch, it sounds like your two "buddies" are giving you the cold shoulder (if the big buck story is true). If it's true, take the hint and get some new friends!

If it were me, and these "buddies" wouldn't tell me where they shot two of the biggest bucks in the world.....i'd beat the crud out of them, take their trophy heads as my own and then get new friend.

right after i went and cried about it for 5 minutes.

I hunt with my "buddies" so maybe you should reassess your situation and your buddy list.

P.S. Im pretty tite lipped with where and when I hunt, and likewise so are my buddies. Its all good, but when somebody asks me about an area or unit I give them honest answers and advise and hope to get the same from others!
 
Wow Huntsnora I didn't expect such a venomous response. I dont see anything wrong with some late nite recon.

I guess the buck my one "buddy" killed is called the Bonzo buck by the locals. It apparently had quite a following with the locals.

Depends on what kind of friends they are. Do you hunt together all the time or just when ever? I have lot's of friends who kill good bucks bulls and I never am rude and ask where. If I don't know where they are hunting then I don't need to ask. Too many people talk too freely about hunting locations. I have a lot of people get mad because I usually just say the state name. They ask yeah I know that but where? About the third time I repeat myself they get it. Some get mad and some laugh.

You don't know for positive that it was your buddies, so I'd wait for some mounts to show up b4 I'd get butthurt. If it is true... maybe they think you talk too much. Or they aren't real buddies. I have 2 close buddies I hunt with and we've got rules for that stuff.

Heres MY huntin' buddy golden rule: I don't ever TELL them where I've seen big bucks, I make them get off their lazy butts and help me scout the area... THATS how they find out where it is.

Alberts huntin' buddy rule is: If we found it together.. its our spot. If he finds it... its his spot UNTIL he takes us in there then its ours too but we can't tell anyone else.

Bruces huntin' buddy rule is.... I don't know yet. He's from NZ and doesn't know AZ for squat.

If you were my buddy, you wouldn't know where I killed the buck until you came out with me.

One positive thing to think about, at least it wasn't a spot that you showed them and they went in there without you and killed good bucks. I've had that happen to me a few times and it stings a little bit.
 
Well I never thought I would see a thread on here that contained so much drama. If your buddies are hunting public land......then there is no freaking secret spot ITS PUBLIC LAND HELLO. I mean come on, we all think that we have are special units and act like no one knows about them....bottom line is everyone finds out about them sooner or later. IF these guys are your friends and are trying to keep things a secret, forget'em they are not friends. I cant believe some people getting all butthurt over knowing which zone. ITs hunting fella's, I mean If I was to find the same exact rock that these guys killed their bucks on, doesnt mean that I am going to be able to produce the same results. Everyone take a deep breath and remember deer season is only a few more months away.

I'll tell anyone who wants to know, wherever I killed an animal, bird or fish. If you are able to go there a year later and have the same result, good for you. Maybe I'll see you there and we'll have a giggle or two.

You guys just don't seem to get the fact that life is way more fun if EVERYONE has a good time. I don't want my friends not to know what I know and I don't have/want friends that feel any different towards me.

But hey, I'm old so I don't have all that testosterone in the way of my thinkin'.

I dont expect my buddies to give me the exact location they were hunting. I just want to know how big the bucks were they killed and a general description of the area they harvested them.

They have a lot more time to scout and check stuff out than I do. I guess I just want them to through me a friggen bone!

I guess the bonzo buck got it name because it lived in a field were garbonzo beans were being raised.

Hell, all my friends know it. Sometimes I mix in the truth just to keep them second guessing. :)That is all part of the hunting heritage ain't it? Sitting around the campfire, telling tall tales.

I don't ask people where they hunt. Who gives acrap. Those bucks are DEAD! If these "friends" are from Utah, they probably aren't really 200" deer anyways so dry your eyes. :-( I wish they would quit selling those elastic tape measurers with the guaranteed "feel good" results.

I think rounding up numbers to 200" and 400"s makes it easier for those with 5th grade educations to estimate deer. That way every mature buck is a 200 incher and every mature bull is a 400 incher and all the oscar meyer weiner measurers can be happy. :7
 
Man, I feel so much better knowing Im not the only one who thinks the whole turtle thing is played out. The bong thread is the only thread out here that never gets old. Enough with the *&%$ turtles.
 
They obviously don't want you to know about the deer they killed. I'd accept that fact and get over it. You'll just have to get out there, do the research, find your own great unit, and go try to out do them.

It's often interesting to me that sometimes none of a person's "buddies" are interested in researching, making calls, scouting, applying for out of state tags, or anything of the sort until that person brings home a couple of big bucks as a result of that research, and suddenly those "buddies" are more than happy to apply for the tag next year.

I'm all for everyone having a good time, and don't mind sharing hard earned info with others (which I have done many times) if they return the favor, but I don't need "buddies" that want to use my hard work for their gain and give nothing in return. Those kind of "buddies" don't get much info from me, and sometimes wonder how I am drawing a tag every couple of years in a unit that typically takes 10 or more points to draw???? Wow, that is weird?? I guess I'm just lucky??
 
You don't need your buddies, just subscribe to Garth Carters service and he'll tell you were all the 200 inch deer are being killed......just keep it a secret as your the only guy he's going to tell.

In your defense It is kind of chicken chit that they are telling everyone that they didn't kill big deer when they did, but than again maybe they are just playing it safe.

Maybe there are "issues" with the hunt :) after all, they are 200 inch deer and all. Sheesh, put the nail in ther coffin because they are from Utah. (Maybe)

Attached are the photos of my "buddies" bucks. The top photo is the infamous NUNYA with the Bonzo buck. I looks like he took him with a contender. The bottom photo shows the other big buck my other buddy took. I am not sure they will go over 200 but they are both nice for their size.

This entire thread has been a spoof to get even with the two clowns in the photos. Lets just say they had it coming.

You couldn't meet two better guys when it comes to helping others harvest game. They have helped many friends and a few complete strangers harvest the animals of their dreams.

There has been some interesting posts and the lying/secrecy topic is apparenty close to the hearts of many MM users.

I just want to apologize to Huntsnora's family about the puking sitation and hope it didn't take too long to clean up.

dang man...you have a problem...that's weird that they would do that. Hmmm....I would talk to the guide first then ask them about it.
 
Grow up, take the hint and quit acting like a bunch of women. If the guys didn't tell you then they must not like, trust, or feel you could keep your mouth shut!!! Find new buddies.

Its not the fact that he doesn't know where Donnie, it's the fact that he thinks they are lying to him about harvesting the deer. If it was just the location, I'd be okay with it, but to lie about it is a total different situation.
