Wasatch Elk Muzz Hunt

I drew this tag this year as my first elk hunt ever. I'm definitely pretty excited and pretty overwhelmed at the thought of learning something totally new. I have a couple of friends that are familiar with the unit and have offered to help both before and during the hunt.

For those of you who know this unit, I'd like to get an idea as to what range of scores the bulls there run. What would be a high scoring bull for that area?

If anyone has any pictures of their bulls off of that unit, I'd love to see them. And if any of you would be willing to give me a couple of areas to begin scouting, I'd certainly appreciate it.

Anything over 320" is an above average bull for the muzz hunt, as with most places, what you put in is generally what you get out. Guys who work hard and spend the necessary time scouting usually do well.

You will find the majority of hunters concentrated in or near the strawberry valley. After the archery and rifle guys get done, most of the good bulls are hid up in nasty places, they are usually still vocal so they can be located but actually killing one is the tricky part.

This being your first elk hunt I'd forgo score and just focus on making it a fun, rewarding hunt that you look back on fondly. Enjoy yourself and don't get stressed!

Click on berryblaster's link if you want to see photos/videos of some high-end bulls that the unit has to offer. But be forewarned that you will want to hire him as an outfitter after you see some of the bulls he's taken. I speak from experience.

I was up at a spot last year just hiking as I do every year during the muzzleloader hunt and I saw 6 good bulls. One that would be 350 plus. I see them in the same place every year there.
I have a friend and father who have archery tags on the Wasatch this year so he will be scouting and if you want to talk let me know I can help you out.

I'd love to have a guide help out, but that kind of $$ just isn't an option for me. Those pictures do look great though!

Here is my 2013 Muzz Wasatch Bull. Good luck to you and have fun. This was the funnest hunt I have ever been on.

This is my 2013 muzzleloader bull,a 7X7 with a ton of mass. He ended up being 12 years old. This hunt was a blast, I had a lot of opprotunities. Everyone is going to tell you about the popular areas, PM me and I can give some areas that are just as good with less hunters.

The unit isn't what it was a few years back. But If your willing to put in the time and work for a good bull there is no reason you shouldn't be able to come away with a 350+ Bull. With that being said a 320 class bull is very respectable on the Wasatch! Once you start playing the numbers game you take away from the fun!
