Ok guys I just wanted to make a quick post about my Dotton tag in hope that a few of you might be able to add to my current knowledge of the area. any PM's will be greatly appreciated!

this is an archery hunt. I have helped on a few muzz/rifle hunts and hunted it for antlerless elk a few times. Ive covered most of the unit in the past and been down scouting this year a few times now. Im just looking for a few tips from guys who have archery hunted it in years past.

Thanks!

Dutton can be a pretty tough place to hunt during the archery season....especially if it's warm and dry! Even though the unit is fairly open the elk tend to hang out in nasty, shaded secluded spots during the archery season. They tend to move considerably once the weather cools down and the rut starts kicking in where they are more visible. It can be somewhat frustrating but if you stick with it and hunt hard you will likely figure out where the elk are hanging out.

Get 2 miles away from any road and you will find elk.
The south end can be very good.

Good luck

Yeah we had alot of action in the south when we hunted on 2006 with a muzzleloader

I had the archery tag in 2005. When it cooled down with Thunderstorms the elk got moving more. Hunt wallows when it is hot that are way off the beaten path. I had to hunt real hard for seven days until I got my bull. Will pm some thoughts.

South end is a nogo. In 2006-2008 it was great however things have changed. Save your time and hunt mid unit...that's where youll find the elk.

"I'll see you all this coming fall in the Big Rock Candy Mountains!"
