Bad news from DWR for Wasatch hunter

I went to the DWR today to pick up a cross bow and season extension permit for my brother that is bound to a wheel chair. I was told that the Limited Entry archery elk hunt is not eligible for season extension dates(this was a different story than what we received before we put him in for the tag). I was told he would be able to hunt starting August 12, which is 5 days before the rest of the public.

We had planned on sitting on a few water holes somewhat close to the roads. These water holes have good action up until the general season starts. Once they start to sense pressure they are gone.

Some may wonder why we put him in for an archery tag. We did this because his health has been poor for the last few years and we thought this may be his last chance for a decent hunt. That being said, I'm not sure turning his tag in makes sense at this point.

If any of you have any suggestions please let me know. Does anyone know of private property on the unit with somewhat reasonable trespass fee's? Does anyone know of any good water holes that are somewhat close to the roads. We can get him into a side by side but not a 4 wheeler. We have lined up a special chair to wheel him down the trails.

As you can imagine my brother has been so excited for the last several months. He saved his money to buy a cross bow and ground blind.

Some of you guys have reached out in the past to help. We really appreciate it.

Sorry to hear that! That's a bad deal! Did the dwr give you a reason as to why it's not eligible? I would be very frustrated if I was in your shoes! I wish I knew of a spot with easy access that I could share with you guys! I'll start pulling some strings and see if I can come up with anything, I'd love to help out!

That's crap! What's the problem with giving extended time to disabled hunters? I feel for ya and hope all goes well on the hunt, good luck to him.

Why in the world would they decide to NOT ALLOW disabled hunters a few extra days before the hunt starts???
Seem ridiculous!
I wish I knew of a water hole close to a road, or some private land Ky..DANG!
I bet someone on here will have some intel or help for you.

I know a guide on the wasatch let me message him and see what he can tell me.

Got some good news and some bad news. The good news is you can turn the tag back in. The bad news is the guide I know said the only place he can think of is Strawberry but he feels like it gets hammered too hard and would not advise hunting it unless you have to.

Thats sad ya know. Good ole F&G cant even do anything for the disabled hunters. I would turn the tag in. Try a CWMU hunt with good recommendations and history. Send them a letter and thank them for the compassion of the disabled that still pay taxes and pay for tags. Sl;ip a couple dollars in the letter and im sure you would get a response.

"Don't go to strawberry, it gets hammered", or in other words, my license doesn't cover Strawberry.

Or maybe he was being honest. I would take it as him being honest considering he hunts the moose by Strawberry, he also goes up Big Cottonwood with his clients to the top in some steep crap but thats another story. The point is he was being honest and said if he had not already booked up for the hunts this year he would have taken this hunter out for free. So if you would like to keep talking smack go ahead but please be informed first.

Based on Chad's health, time is not in his favor. Otherwise we would turn his tag back in. We are hoping he is well enough to get out for a couple of days.
