Just looking to get a good conversation started on successful stories of Wasatch archery bulls. If you or someone you know had some success Please Share the story! Spot and stalk, siting water/trails, pure luck or what ever other way the job was done? And if you ate tag soup lets hear what you would do differently if you had the tag again?

Killed this the second to last weekend of the archery hunt in 2011... Hunted my butt off, sat water, spot n stalk, even tried doing a couple good old fashioned drives to mix things up. Finally was able to get in on this on I guess what you'd call a 'hear and stalk'... Never did see the bull, but heard him bugling along with 6 or 7 other bulls, we singled out his bugle and moved in. Didn't ever see him until right before I got ready to shoot and decided to take him. Thumped him quartered away at 45 yards once he broke off his cows, he ran downhill about 100 yards and died within minutes. Funnest hunt I've ever been on, but most stressful as well. If I could do it all again I would in a heartbeat, but I wouldn't have put so much time and energy in the first couple weeks of the hunt. It was much more efficient to hunt them once they started talking later into the hunt.

For my hunt in 2012 they really didn't talk much until the last 3 days. I ended up eating the tag. Thing I would have done different is actually take days off and hunt with a partner or two. I was in school full time and unable to take days off. I only hunted the evenings and was by myself. I think having some help with calling and positioning would have made me successful. I really should have just turned my tag back in since I didn't have much time to hunt.

Not looking for anyone's spots utarchery. Just looking to have a good conversation with successful and unsuccessful hunters. That may give some helpful advice to a tag holder.

I have an archery tag this year as well. I'm stoked for the hunt but realize the challenge that is ahead. There lots of elk in the unit and lots of good bulls but with the season dates it can be a challenge to hear much talking from them. I have hunted this unit for elk for the past 15 plus years and have had success many many times, just hoping to put my hands on a respectable bull! Good Luck!

I've hunting this unit since 2004. I killed a bull in 2007 with my bow on this unit. Best advice I can give you is hunt water early in the hunt, and stay on it ALL DAY LONG. Many bulls come in at 1&2PM. Late in the season, (last couple of days) plan on being mobile, and chasing screaming elk as much as possible. With the early season dates this year, I wouldn't try to call them in, I'd only use my call to locate them and then move in on them.

Last but most importantly...pray for cold weather. :)

You'll have a blast!!!
