What were they?

I can think of the big Wasatch buck from early on, and the Henry's Sportsman's tag buck, and the other big archery buck from down south.

The huge typical shot on the Book Cliffs, by the young kid. Probably my favorite UT buck of the year!

How many other 180+ bucks can you think of?

Pics would be great:)

Holy crap I can't SPELL tonight-edit edit edit.....

Prism, Check out the latest edition of MULEY CRAZY magazine. Jeff Mitchell from American Fork Killed a 230 buck this year in Utah with A Muzz.

Speaking of Muley Crazy, Prism you had a good story this month. Congrats on the deer.

Gotta wait three more days for final score, but pushing 240 real hard non typical. Muley Crazy is the source upcoming for photos.

Not quite 180 but he goes 175. Public land Northern Utah.

Here are just a few of the great 190+ archery bucks taken in UT that I can remember being posted. I also remember hearing of a giant typical(210+) taken in the very Southern part of the state, but never saw pics.

In addition to these, I know of many bucks taken that I either don't have permission to post, or haven't seen pics, like the 230+ buck from the Henries, or the huge Oak Creek buck. I'd say its been a great year for Utah deer hunting.

Nice to see that two of the rifle hunters wore orange. Aren't you suppose to wear orange for all rifle hunts in Utah?

LAST EDITED ON Dec-20-07 AT 10:04AM (MST)[p]Larry,

Dang man. Way to keep track! Looking at those pics makes me think it's gonna be an awful long wait until next fall.

Some great bucks! Extra KUDOS to the boys (and gals) that took thier deer on the general hunts-IMPRESIVE!!!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.........

D
I believe this buck was from the Elk Ridge area. There was a whole thread on it back in Sept.

The San Juan put out a couple of toads this year.

What kind of money does a San Juan conservation tag bring in?

LAST EDITED ON Dec-20-07 AT 03:45PM (MST)[p]Looks like Larry is in the loop. Nice post Larry.

Prism, 180" bucks? It seems like there would too many to list off general season hunts. I had a couple net 190+ bucks off of Utah general season come thru my shop which I doubt anyone will ever see in a magazine or a book. Lots of 180-200 inch deer. Of course people would never believe that because they don't see them behind every bush on their hunts. Utah's deer herd isn't the best, but it ain't all that bad........ I expect next year will be even better, if Mother Nature gives us a break.

Happy to hear that Packout.

Mother nature has been pretty kind to us for over a decade now-must be global warming:)

Another good year would be welcomed by me.

Too many 180" bucks to list??? Now that's interesting......are we talking hundreds???

What the hell is a CO buck doing in there when these are suppose to UT deer. Sneaking on some of grandpas cough syrup, again, are we?

LAST EDITED ON Dec-21-07 AT 08:12AM (MST)[p]"I haven't seen anywhere in the proclamation that hunters are required to wear orange for photos. "

But the pictures were taken "during a centerfire hunt"... I don't make the rules, just follow them.

B. Requirement to Wear Hunter Orange
23-20-31
(1) As used in this section:
(a)(i) ?Centerfire rifle hunt? means a hunt for which a hunter may use a centerfire rifle, except as provided in Subsection (1)(a)(ii).
(ii) ?Centerfire rifle hunt? does not include:
(A) a bighorn sheep hunt;
(B) a mountain goat hunt:
(C) a hunt requiring the hunter to possess a statewide conservation permit; or
(D) a hunt requiring the hunter to possess a statewide sportsman permit.
(b) ?Statewide conservation permit? means a permit:
(i) issued by the Division;
(ii) distributed through a nonprofit organization founded for the purpose of promoting wildlife conservation; and
(iii) valid:
(A) on open hunting units statewide; and
(B) for the species of big game and time period designated by the Wildlife Board.
(c) ?Statewide sportsman permit? means a permit:
(i) issued by the Division through the big game drawing; and
(ii) valid:
(A) on open hunting units statewide; and
(B) for the species of big game and time period designated by the Wildlife Board.
(2)(a) A person shall wear a minimum of 400 square inches of hunter orange material while hunting any species of big game, except as provided in Subsection (3).
(b) Hunter orange material must be worn on the head, chest and back.
(c) A camouflage pattern in hunter orange does not meet the requirements
of Subsection (2)(a).
(3) A person is not required to wear hunter orange material during an archery, muzzleloader, mountain goat, or bighorn sheep hunt, unless a centerfire
rifle hunt is in progress in the same area.

Hey Bomber, just curious which deer you are referring to. The only one that may possibly be a CO buck is the last in the snow, but the email said Book Cliffs.

Yelum

Yellum, you may be right. My email said the CO side of the Books. Who knows? Thanks

cjg_beef,
Once the hunter tags the animal, is he still a hunter? He does NOT have a valid tag anymore, since he filled his already. If I am with a rifle hunter w/o being the 'hunter', I am NOT required to wear orange. My understanding is there is NO requirement to wear orange once the harvest has taken place.

PRO

Define, develop, and sustain BOTH trophy and opportunity hunts throughout the state of Utah.

You've got a point. Don't want to hi-jack the thread but does anyone have any knowledge on this?

I think pros logic makes sense to me. Just be careful. It's not smart to throw a buck over your shoulder and carry it out, with out some orange on. Orange is not needed for pictures. Lot's of big Utah bucks shot this year.

So,,,, If you are diving back to camp, on your 4 wheeler, with a dead buck strapped to the rack, and you are stopped by F&G do you want to have your orange on? I'd guess everyone would, because I'd wager they'd get a ticket if they didn't.

The San Juan buck is the one I like best.

Why do so many people get jealous about big bucks and try to find something wrong with them?
