any of you diehards ever bowhunt mule deer near Queen Valley area. I was out quail hunting this weekend around Roblas Butte and happen to see a nice buck chasing a couple of does. The area is flooded with cattle and weekend atver's. My GPS showed a small lake not far from Whitlow damn and about 1.5 miles from where I was located but not sure if it has water. Probably not. Also found a full water tank but it showed no activity. It ran along an 4-wheel drive trail and had steep hills surrounding it. It was about .5 miles from where I was hunting. It did however have a nice litte drainage area that lead up to a saddle. This area showed signs of game trail but could not see tracks for all the damn cattle. Over the saddle was a draw that lead into sort of a large bowl flat where I saw the deer. This bowl seem to have a couple of spots that deer could funnel from. So with that being said. I am not new to bowhunting, just new to giving it a try in AZ. Seeing those deer today got my heart pumping and mighty excited. So how many deer do you think are back in this area? What do they eat? Anyone got any tips? What should I look for for feeding and bedding areas. I wouldn't know what a bedding area for mule deer would look like. I seem to have located water sources and I have also seen those little 1" lines on the ground that I assume run to cattle drinkers. Traffic doesn't seem to bother the deer as I was watching them a couple of 4-wheelers went blasting by. ADVICE, ADVICE, ADVICE. I am also up for going out hunting with anyone sometime to learn the ropes. Thanks guys this site is great!!

Sounds like there rutting there, which means the deer are on the move.Having said that i would do alot of glassing from a high vantage point looking for movement. The deer ive seen that were bedded seemed to bedded where they could be in the shade most of the day and usually below a mesquite or palo verde tree or shrubs.A good water source will always up your odds sit long enough and game will appear.Ive seen mule deer eat grass, weeds, and shrubs.GOOD LUCK
