Man what a proud Papa I am today. My little girl, though not so little anymore, got her first big game animal.
Amazing how this has changed me already as to my own hunting. The feeling I had as she took her first cannot be explained. I am sure many of you have felt it.
Anyway, I am proud and she is so stoked she can't stop telling everyone she knows about it.
Good thing we had the long range gun, that 35 yard shot was tough.
My favorite line from her was, "I can't stop shaking dad!"

We had put in together and both drew. I killed mine a few weeks ago with my bow and I am going to take both hides and have a blanket made up for her.
Man, don't know who is more excited about this hunt.

Good times

Wow that is awesome. some great times, great shot placement and 35 yards what a great time you guys had

Awesome Jason! Congrats to you both! There is nothing like hunting with your kids! I enjoy it mote than my own hunts! Tell her great shot!

Just excellant! You both look appropriately happy and yes, that shot couldn't have been any better. Story?

Now that is a great post! Love seeing the little ones get that first kill under their belt! Congratulations on a fine animal! She's hooked for life!

Congratulations to your daughter and you as well! There is nothing better than hunting with your son or daughter, period. You have many years of great experiences ahead of you. Enjoy!

Congrats to you both on a great life experience. What a wonderful memory you both have to share and stories to tell. Reminds me of my oldest's first elk a cow also! Great way to start our future hunter's off.

Congrats to both of you! That is awesome!

I am taking my 5 year old daughter and my wife on the general deer hunt this coming weekend. Neither have ever been present when a big game animal has been taken. I am curious to see their reactions if we are successful.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-13-14 AT 06:30PM (MST)[p]Short story. And thanks for all the replies. She thinks this is all great!

Got to camp at almost midnight. I took her out of school for Thursday and Friday. (I figure what would a hunt be without missing school )

So the next morning we spotted some elk coming up from the bottom of the canyon. Hiked way down and got on them but it didn't work out. That night we sat a spring and nothing came in.
Next day we hunted hard and got onto 2 herds in the thick quakes, but youthful inexperience cost us those. It was great! She got really excited at being so close. We heard a bull bugle and went after it, but it was only once so we couldn't find them. I knew of a few ponds near by and we decided to set up,on them for the evening.
We were there for about an hour and she whispers excitedly, "Dad! Look over there!" And sure enough a couple cows and calves had snuck into one of the ponds. They were pretty nervous and drank quick and started heading towards us. We had set up on a fallen tree to use for a rest. As the lead cow came by below us I told her to tell me when she had her in the scope. She did and I made a cow sound and the elk stopped. I said shoot, and she didn't. I said shoot now and she didn't. I started panicking as I knew that the cow wouldn't hang out much longer, but the gun sounded off. The cow took off and we thought she had missed. But we went to investigate and after a bit we found blood and more blood. The yellow quakie leaves are great for tracking! I had her follow as I knew the elk was dead. It went about 100 yards. Charli just stood in awe. It was great.
Skinning and cutting quarters with her was good fun as well. Even though I got a havalon to the finger. But that's another inexperience moment.
Thanks again.

Great story, Tell her she did awesome. Her smile says it all, Great shot placement.

Thanks for sharing! My wife and I are expecting a daughter the first part of February and I can't wait to share experiences with her like you have shared with your daughter!

Thanks everyone. Been gone off guiding. Killed me I couldn't have her out there for the Utah deer opener, but heading out tomorrow am for a day. Another missed school day, but her first buck is more important!

Awesome job! It's great to see some fathers and daughters out there together. Hunting doesn't get any better than this. We need more young ladies representing the hunting community to the current generation. Great to see! Congrats to both!
