Badlands

Im looking into the Badlands 2200 for a new pack. I will be backpacking and hauling meat. Just wondering if anyone has one and if they like it. How many nights can it haul enough gear for, and how much meat can it haul?

The 2200 is enough for 3-4 days of hunting. You should be able to carry about 50 lbs. of meat without too much discomfort. I don't own one, but my brother has one and has hauled both deer and elk meat with his. He's had it for years, and I'm sure the design has changed since then. I use a 3300 from kelty, which has hauled a lot of gear and meat for me. It's light, simple, and made with quiet camo material. I also have a 2400 from kelty that has seen better days from a lot of use, but has hauled more pounds of meat than any other pack I own. I used to use it for bivy trips up to 3 days. I've found the 3300 to be a bit more suited to stays longer than a few days. I've never found a reason to go beyond that size for the type of backpack hunting I do.

If your wanting to do over-nighters and haul meat you might want to look at the 2800 split pack, for me its a little on the large side for a day pack but thats just my opinion. The 2200 might be a hair small depending on how many nights your spending and how much clothes and food you need to haul. Either way I think they are both very easy on the body.

If huntin is a sport.....Well your lookin at an athlete!

I got a 2200 badlands and I recently helped pack about 40 or so pounds of a shoulder and ham or a ram without any problems. I was not backpaking though, so I did not have other stuff.

The pack is designed to comfortably carry 50 pounds about, but you could carry a lot more in a pinch, but it would not be comfortable.

You can strap on stuff on a 2200. I think the 2200 is the flagship of the badlands packs.

It just depends on how much "stuff" you are going to carry.

my buddy has one and while i was helping him on the elk hunt this year he asked me to wear it one day and i thought it was very uncomfortable maybe it was the way he had it loaded but anyone else have this problem? i know they have a sweet warrant for life because he broke his zipper and they gave him a new one no questions asked, another buddy of mine melted part of his on his fourwheeler exhaust i thought no way because it was his own fault but yep sure enough no questions and replaced

the 2200 is good enough for a max of 3 days of hunting. That is, if your are packing in really light and have already taken in some supplies to your camping spot. I love my 2200 but if i am going in for more than 3 days i would suggest a bigger pack. I have packed out the head of a deer, back straps, one hind quarter and a front quarter on my pack. It was uncomfortable as hell, but got everything down. My buddy took the rest of the meat in his 2200.

I have one and love it. Anything more than 3-4 days I would look at the 2800. You can not go wrong with Badlands.

It's an awesome pack but I really don't look at it as a mulitday pack. Maybe an overnighter. More of a great day pack, with the ability to hoaul out meat. I really like the way it has compartments for my spotter and tripod. Thay way they are not flopping around tied to the outside of the pack. The quality and warranty cannot be beat.

the 2200 is a little small if you will be backpackin for more the an over night trip. i would go with the 2800 i love mine only backpack i use ill use mine for a day trip or ive spent 5 days in the hills with mine.

I just purchased the 2800. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I really love the feature's. I especially like the way you can haul out meat and capes, without mixing with your clothes, and other gear.

"Easy now, keep the croshairs right behind his shoulder & squeeze the trigger"

My favorite daypack. Not big enough in my opinion for overnight trips. You could make it work if you didn't need to worry about big temperature swings/bad weather and you had a buddy helping with stove/tent/etc. but it would be tight.

Well thought out pack for the hunter including the pocket locations and bat wings with an unbeatable warranty. Also think the Max1 is one of the best camo's out there.

Have used it on numerous hunts with good success.

I have done up to two nights with it but your stuff better be sized to be considered in the ultralight category to all fit! I wish I had gotten a 2800! I really wish they made a 3500 as I think that would be perfect for around 5 day trips and something to haul a goat or deer out with along with your camp. Just my $.02 worth on it though. The 2200 just does not pack efficiently IMHO!

I have a 2800 and love it. It packs down to virtually the same size but has more room to expand. It hauls meat very well by keeping the weight right next to your spine.

I am really surprised to hear a complaint about their zippers. I have owned four of their packs and have had great luck with the zippers, and everything else on the pack.

Gee, I thought I was the only one who has problems with the zippers on the Badlands packs.

Yeah, they'll fix them under "warranty" after you pay shipping to get it to them.

On the positive they will hold a ton of meat and gear.

I got the big boy and have more junk in it that I could ever use.

After the javelina seasons are over it will go back to them for the SECOND time to get the zippers fixed.

I own a 2200. If what you want is a pack for a short trips or day hunts and to be able to pack some meat it is great. It can be over kill for a day pack but when the game is down and its time haul it out its surprisingly good. I hauled out 2 quarters the back straps and head off of a big bodied 5x3 with no problems. The pack almost seems to get more comfortable with weight.
