I am planning on doing some solo backpacking hunts this next season, and would like to buy a spotting scope. Idealy I would buy a Swarovski, but im only 16, and cant afford one. What is a good light weight spotting scope for under $500?

I got a vortex-skyline ED for christmas. I havent used it much, but I love it. I think the skyline with out the ed is around $400. Well worth the money.

If you are looking for a backpacking scope for a great value, check out the Vortex, Nomad 20-60X60. You will see that it is light weight, compact and will give you great range at those magical hours.

Nikon 50mm ED. Weighs 16 oz and is only $699 best spotter on the market for backpacking and the money.

One of the Leupold compacts prolly fall right in that price point. There pretty good but not as good as the old fixed power 25 or 30x50, might find one of these used. They are great backpack scopes. But what I have now is the Nikon mentioned several times in this thread. Awsome little scope. Check with Doug at Cameraland, He did better than $699.00 for me..........
