My good friends Dad has the late tag. He 65 years young and still looking for a bull. They didnt see an elk opening day. If your willing to give him some help, give me a pm. I know they saw 1 bull sunday night right at dark, but havnt heard back yet.

I can tell you were not to go Rob.

I spent today up in Rays valley, The Waters and Teat mountain.

The good news, THE DEER LOOK GREAT!-----Saw 200 + !
It's been 20+ years since I've seen that many bucks after the hunt was over..

The bad news, were there used to be truckloads of elk are no more.

Hell, the closed the late LE elk on the Wasatach because it
was to easy on the south end of the unit!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, Today, Glassed from a dozen spots I used to look at
hundereds of elk in November------- Today exactly ZERO elk--
UNFREAK'in believable how bad their screwing up the Wasatch elk herd!!!!!

I know Bess, you were 100% spot on!
There have been a few of us watching it spiral down hill..
Funny thing is, there's still guys out there that DONT see it..

The deer are DEFINATLY improving though..

Saw 3 driffrent bucks today I'd hang, But, No WOW bucks ..

Did get pics of a 25" solid 4 x 4..
I think it's the same buck a few guys from SF city were chase'in.
One of them got shots at him 2 weeks ago and missed,
BOY, am I going to have fun razz'in those guys tomarrow!!!!

On the Avintaquin unit we saw more deer this year than the last 5 years combined. And the fewest elk we have ever seen. Not sure that's a coincidence. Personally, I would like to see the trend of more deer continue.

The Problem is the GF keeping handing out way to many cow tags!! I've archery hunted the Wasatch since 1988 and the last 8 years it's got to be the worst in the state for numbers.. Keep killing them late season cows and all of them being pregnant numbers have to go down!! What pisses me off is the ones that do all the bitching on these forums are usually the ones that have the late season cow tag in HAND!

IMO,
Huge mistake made by the Wild life board to put OTC cow control
permits on the Wasatch unit!

Goofy it's not just the OTC tags it's the 500 late season tags they give out and their shooting them into January!!

Every Tom, Richard and Harry had a cow tag on the Wasatch, again this year. The poor elk are taking a beating in most areas.
Yes, there are still elk around. I saw lots of elk in SOME areas but zero in other areas where we used to see tons.
We've seen more deer too. Do you think there's a correlation between the fall of one species and the rise of another?

The Wasatch Le elk is to the point the unit needs to be sub-divided..

Too many areas with no elk left, wouldn't hurt to close spike hunting either.

And END all antlerless perits as-well.................JMHO.
