CWMU hunts

Have any of you ever hunted on the Two Bear, Weber Florence, or Bally Watts units? I'm looking for a decent unit for my wife. She has 5 points this year and she is looking for a good respectable buck and an over all good hunting experience. We are not picky but I would like to see her shoot at something bigger than you typical Northern region 2 point.

Anybody reccomend any other units??

Thanks.

I hunted the Bally Watts unit for years before it became a CWMU. The landowners would only allow you to hunt the northern portion of the unit north of Cottonwood creek. It always had quite a few deer, but I never killed anything big, lots of 2 and 3 points. Most years you would at least get a glimpse of a bigger buck, but the last few years I never saw any. Lower portions are covered in sage, upper in thick oak brush. I know of some big ones that came off the unit, but they were few and far between, mostly years apart. It has been six or seven years since I last hunted it. The Durst Mtn. side always looked great, but like I said, we could never hunt it. Call the operator and get a feel on how it is. We always saw big bucks late in the year on cow elk hunts, but isn't that always the case?

Bally watts is not a good area. I hunted it for a few years also before the owners leased it out. You can get a buck any day of the hunt at any time but there small. 2 points were every where like cattel. As stated erlier there was a few decent deer taken out but not worth going if you want a good buck. Elk mountian was the place to go to get a chance at a decent buck there. I would not waist your wifes points on the unit.

Well that's not sounding too good for Bally Watts.

What about South Canyon up by Avon??

I have also been looking for a decent place for my son. I had 3 choices, state corner, grouse creek, and missouri flat. There are some good CWMU's around the state. I started with the web sight hunterstrailhead.com and found areas with a 50 % or better chance of a draw with his points and made some phone calls. We got anywhere from alot of good information (50 min. phone call) to down right rude and did not care. Do some home work and you will find something decent.

Two Bear is awesome but good luck unless you got bukoo point.

Weber Florence is okay but not what one would expect. There are big bucks taken off of their ranches yearly but they have probably the most tags given, second only to Deseret.

No experience with Bally Watts but hear good things about J&J who operates the deal.

I have experience on Weber/Florence.

Bull Moose and Bull Elk as my dad has drawn them both from W/F.

Steve and Garrett are real good guys and always very up front with us.

I have been on both sides of the ranch, the via Oakley side, my favorite, and the via Chalk Creek side.

I will make myself more clear. We made about 10 calls. The 3 area's I mentioned were our final choices. Sorry Mr. Richins and any others for the missunderstanding. Mr. Richins I did speak to Daniel Richins of the Grass Valley CWMU and was very impressed. Any Relation?
