I have never applied out of state (utah) and I have decided its time to put in out of state if I want a chance at a decent buck. Couple questions for anyone willing to help.

1. How much does it cost to apply for a preference point in Colorado? From what I could tell it was $25.00 last year?

2. Whens the application period this year?

3. And the most complicated question. How many points for a quality hunt for a 170+ class deer? Muzz/Rifle/Archery?
Thanks for the help

Colorado is usually due in April, they haven't printed their proc yet so some of your questions are TBA. I think any unit could yield a 170 class animal but the top tier units are 10 + points to draw.

The top units you will never draw in your life time if your just starting out and with there new restrictions on how many tags can go to non res. its getting tougher. But you can draw some pretty good units with 2-3 points.

It is only $25 if you didn't have a big game license the previous year, should still be the same, haven't heard of any changes.

Procs come out in Feb and draw deadline is always right around tax day :-(

As for a 170" buck, nearly any zone you want. If you check the latest B&C record book for(last 3 years), nearly every county had at least 1 entry for either a typical or non-typical. Most of the ones that didn't are on the flat lands where nearly all the land is private(fewer hunters = fewer oppurtunities for entries). I don't really feel its necessary to put in for one of the "dream zones" in CO to harvest a monster buck.
