Is Utah missing the boat on donations?!?!?

I read this on another post. Alot of people are willing to donate, LET THEM!

"Don (or someone), let us know how folks can donate to the feeding efforts."

I am sure they are, but not just on donations. Utah has been missing the boat for a while and it will take a lot of work for them to catch up to states like Colorado when they want to be so different.
I guess in a sense Utah got what they wanted, once in a lifetime you can hunt trophy elk....or you can hunt spikes!

2-3 times in a lifetime you can hunt big deer, unless you are young and then it is almost once in a lifetime.

Other than that, they will continue to talk about loss of winter range and great trophies that someone you know once took while hunting Utah.

A lot of money being lost out on, and a lot of it going next door to Colorado.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-04-08 AT 12:43PM (MST)[p]To tell you the truth BT...

We have given 1000's of tags to the Conservation Tag program over the many-many years, it has become a simple...'Why Donate' when all we ever hear or see is millions and millions of $$$ that are generated each year from the sale of these tags and how 90% $$$ Ultimately goes on the ground for wildlife.

WTF is my $100 check going to do vs the million $$$ that we all have sacrificed via the draw...with these tags long gone...

Some goofball once posted like .03 % of draw odds...but add them ALL up over like 10--12 years there is only a 11 point pool instead of a 15 pt pool on draw species...

We all give Every Single Year....why donate $$$...??

Plus the Big Expo for Wildlife is this week..... The huge 1 Million Dollar check last year with Gov. Huntsman pics never ever was used for the land purchase as the School Trust ground became a comprimised agreement...where did that $ 1 million go....POOF...how about the big money we are going to hear and read about next week after the big Expo is done and gone...Convention Tags--200 @ $5.00 a pop to apply...Hello?

We dummy Utah hunters have been well beat up and educated that with out the Conservation tags and the Convention tags....nothing would be accomplished in our state.....for wildlife.

Good put some of that 'Cash Flow' on the ground as feed RIGHT NOW!!!

Ya Robb, you are probably right. Sportsmen really shouldn't need to donate money from their pockets at this time until we've used up some of the millions of dollars those conservation tags and Expo. tags produce.

As far as feeding, from what I understand feed is VERY limited. Basically, the UDWR does not have access to much feed. Does anyone know more about that than I?
My buddy told me that a bunch of people showed up in Ogden on Saturday to pick up feed to go feed deer in different areas but there was only enough feed for one area for a few days.

Anyway, if they're going to do it, now is the time to get it done right now.

>SFW & MDF better step up
>big right now.

They already are! They didn't wait for the DWR to pull their heads out, they have been feeding for days now. Saturday night UBA held our annual banquet, and MDF got up and asked for donations, in less than an hour $1200.00 was raised, every dollar helps.

Robb, calling me a "goofball" may make you feel better, but FACST ARE FACTS! The MILLIONS raised by SFW/MDF etc has done GREAT things for wildlife, but to say that should make deer/elk immune to Mother Nature is beyond ABSURD! Go ahead and keep your "$100.00" if it makes you feel like you are doing your part. Make your snide comments while SFW?MDF are out feeding RIGHT NOW!

I know SFW is funding the feeding program in Wasatch County right now. They tried to get the mule deer foundation to show some interest , but that fell through.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-04-08 AT 10:29PM (MST)[p]Oh yeah, I think the Mule deers general manager got bucked off the horse before it even started to move and the consultant could only afford a dead one to ride.

Poor Bart--- Always the 'victim'....

I see nothing in my previous post about Bart = goofball...?

Nor anything about wildlife vs Mother Nature....?

Yes-millions of $$ raised.....like I posted...

No problem---You always have the Big Blow---on about every single thread you post on----it is normal.....you will be fine.

Forgive me if I get this wrong, but hasn't the UDWR been setting money aside since 2000 for Emergency Winter feeding? Where has all this money gone?????

I have been told that $5 of every license sold is set a side for emergency feeding! So I have no idea why it has taken so long to get the division to get going. Is Hardware ranch the only place that is important to the division?

What a bunch of bull...Thanks to the Sportsman for stepping up and recognizing that there is a problem. Heaven forbid that the So called professionals pay attention to what they are commissioned to look after. I would like to know where all the funds were saved for a snowy day have now gone! There needs to be some sort of accountability placed upon the Utah DWR for lacking to see the issue.
