Probably the wrong forum for this question as I'm not a tech guy.....but seeking Input. I want to get a small camera to mount to the bill of my cap to use in hunting . Looking at Go-pro and Sony action cam. Obviously need one that doesn't make noise when you turn it on and preferably no lights in front. Anyone on MM have experience / words of wisdom on these types of cameras? Thx Jim

Servehim,

I was going to get something that clips on my hat, but I decided to buy a Solvid System for this falls hunts. I don't like the GoPro for self filming hunts because it is meant for short range filming and the video can become shaped like a circle at some distances. I assume this is for filming a bow hunt. I plan on using a small camcorder that does not make any noise and I just put a piece of electrical tape over the blinking light.

Everything farther than 10 yards looks tiny. Action cams are good for filming the hunter. If you want footage of the shot/animal, I don't think an action camera is what your looking for. [font face="verdana" color="green"] Jake

I have the Solvid System that Dillon mentions. Works fine with a light-weight camcorder. I use the Sony HDR CX330, which feels real light weight, so might seem cheap, but is pretty good for the price.

Problem with Solvid is that for kill shots (archery for me) the camera needs to be set up pointing a little to the left (right-handed shooter). Need to practice shooting with it on at home before hitting the hills and get accustomed to where to look (i.e., head turned a little to the right) when it is mounted so you get the action as the animal(s) come in before the shot. Otherwise, you will only get either the kill shot or the animal coming in, but not both.

I also bought the Solvid and hope to use either my phone or a dig. camera just because I don't want to buy one more thing. They make a phone holder that can be mounted on the Solvid that they told me about so I ordered one off Amazon. You can also get a blue-tooth remote to start and stop the video. These are really cheap off Amazon or Ebay so I thought I'd give them a try. As noted I'm expecting I'll need to practice quite a bit beforehand to see how it might work for hunting.

You guys saved me from adding to my list of mistakes. Lol.. solvid is a much better option. Dillion, YES it is hopefully to be used on an archery hunt up in your neck of the woods. Praying I'll also be chasing Bulls in the Gila this year. Solvid is high on the Panasonic camcorders , I'm amazed at how inexpensive they are! Any words of wisdom on how high I need to go on the quality to be satisfied ?

COLO, the blue tooth you mentioned would that be just a handheld remote I could put in my pocket for example to push for on/off on the camcorder? If my 20 yr old son were still living at home I could ask him , he is tech savvy and not Techtared like his dad.

Yes it is a handheld. Smaller than a car remote so easy to fit in pocket. It was easy to get it to work too as I'm not a techie either.
